"Jerusalem Road!" w&m fred hallman c. 2015

The Jerusalem Road

Mmmm, lonesome and beat up and bleary, I plopped beside my dog down on a bench.

Wore out and wasted and weary, I cooten’ move another inch,

when I fell asleep and saw every nation, people and tribe down to a man,

Gathered at the cradle of civilization, just as if it were all planned.

They were marchin’ southeast from a sea of glass, right where old Baghdad used to stand.

Then the trumpets all ceased, there was a moment of Peace, before it all hit the fan.

There was a Dragon pinned down in the desert.  There was a Lion looking coyly at a Lamb.

And last and so least, some unspeakable beasts, were butchering in Bethlehem.

Mmmm, the ghosts of Cain and Abel are goin’ at it still today.

Killin’ their brother ‘cause their Father liked the other,

Best at least that’s what they say down on the Jerusalem Road…Yeah, the Jerusalem Road.

Mmm, ya’ better pray for the peace of the stones of the street they, carry such a heavy load.

Down on the Jerusalem road, yeah the Jerusalem road.

Then I woke up and picked up a paper, from the ground to wrap around me for the cold,

And the headline screamed at me so I started to read and Lord a chill ran through my soul.

It said the ghosts of Cain and Abel are goin’ at it still today.

Killin’ their brother ‘cause their Father liked the other, best at least that’s what they say

Down on the Jerusalem Road…Yeah, the Jerusalem Road.

Mmmm, better pray for the peace of the stones of the street they carry such a heavy load

down on the Jerusalem road.

Yeah, the Jerusalem road, that damned ole’ Jerusalem road, don’t go down the Jerusalem road,

Whoa ohoh, Jerusalem road, whistle past that old Jerusalem road, Mmm, Jerusalem road….

(and fade)

In the interest of bending over backwards I hereby include a Jewish funeral procession..

(Biggest I could make it)

and a Christian one..

What's the picture of? Or rather, who's the picture of?

A funeral procession ala Via Dolorosa.  Tying in the whole stones of the street thing.

I think that they may be Palestinians if the green thing rolled-up is a flag, who knows?

Why?

I resented (long ago) the old newspaper comic pages addition of a half-sheet folded ad section so much that I actually trained myself to tear it off without ever allowing it's content to penetrate my awareness.

Delete buttons are so much easier than that.
