I love my cell phone camera. Anything that catches my eye is easy to record. The cats, always.
I take more shots of things than people. Some of the shots are highly intentional and end up as references for drawings. I always record the artwork made by my students and publish them on our online gallery website.
My favorites, though, are just random things I come across that make me laugh. If I am laughing at myself and my place on the world, then I can see the joy in the world around me.
The following images were taken over the course of this past summer, and come from the "things that make me laugh" file. I am entirely inspired by our amazing Marianne Spellman in deciding to publish them here.
Found on the end of a moss-covered fence post during a recent hike through a local park:
"Sometimes They Get Away"
These come from one of our local thrift stores, called "New 2 You". If you say it fast, it sounds like "Nudie You", which the BLP and I have shortened to "Nudie", as in "Hey, you wanna go for a walk through Nudie today?"
"Part of a Horse in Part of a Tree"
"Kids, Avert Your Eyes"
"Pigs. You CAN Dress "Em Up!"
This next one was taken in a Costco. These things look like they are fishing, don't they? The BLP and I wrote a whole song about them that we have yet to record. But we should. And we will. Someday.
"Fishin' For Babies"
What would a photo post be without some silly cat pics? Moonpie makes me laugh every day.
