but I injured my marching aparatus.

After weeks of planning and organizing with local activists for our March For Our. Lives, I cannot march.   A few days back upon returning from a camping trip*, I had a minor accident which resulted in a small tear to my groin muscle and a teeny fracture to my hip bone. So, walking is painful & not advised... marching is for sure out of the question.

So, instead of march photos, I give you camping* photos from our most recent adventure.

Colorado River, Blythe, CA

This little guy was perched on the sign by the boat ramp every morning.

Blythe Intaglios   (Think petroglyph, but carved into the surface of the desert floor, not rock walls) These are down a dirt road in the middle of the desert. Pretty much the definition of the middle of nowhere.  It was a nice day so we 4 wheeled in part of the way and hiked the rest.

I love the way the late afternoon light plays on the mountains

Last light, Colorado River on the California side. I have lived in California for about 8 years now & am still awed by  how much natural beauty it has.

Lake Webb, near Bakersfield CA

Something wicked this way comes. We spent 6 days here. It rained 5 of those days. I didn't care, there was still so much pretty to see... even if I had to get soaked to see it.

Duck rush hour.

Mr & Mrs Duckerson hunkering down before the rain. Mrs seems to be giving me the stink-eye.

Another day, another shower...

but later you get this...

and later still you get this, when you are sick of being cooped up so you drive to town and find a great Mexican restaurant where Trae orders something he has never heard of and it arrives looking like its gonna eat him before he can even pick up his fork. (it was super delicious)

*I hate calling it "camping", as we do so in a motorhome with a kitchen & a bathroom & a microwave and other than location it is not recognisable as "camping". Its more like visiting nature in your house, but thats too many words.

thanks Kosh.

FM - I did my bit by helping with the logistics of organizing, getting permits etc. But i really wanted to march :(

That dish is something called el chingon molcajete, which roughly translates to bad ass (el chingon) molcajete (molcajete is the name of the stone dish it is cooked and served in).  This one had steak, chicken, chorizo sausage & shrimp along with cactus, grilled jalapenos and the most delicious cooked salsa i have ever had.  I adore authentic Mexican food & this did not disappoint.

"a small tear to my groin muscle and a teeny fracture to my hip bone..."

That is your definition of a "minor accident"?

Who the hell are you?  The Black Knight??  "Tis but a scratch"!

A little town 20 miles north was going to have a march, but the organizer has some affliction and it is rainy, so we opted to watch.  The T.V. coverage has been pretty awesome.

I love your pictures.  The last time I went actually camping was in the late 1970s.  L said, "I've slept on my last rock."

Amy - "Its just a flesh wound, Ive 'ad worse!"

Actually, this shit is mega painful and the muscle relaxants & pain meds arent helping much.  They do knock me out so I'm sleeping lots. The story behind the injury is sad & stupid...  so i shall tell it because I have no shame!

So, we were back home from camping & there is a gated, locked storage yard by the house where we store the motorhome... otherwise it would take up the entire driveway.  When we get to the gate of the storage yard, per usual... done it a million times... I jump off the motorhome & unlock/open the gate. I then jump back on & we go to our assigned spot & park.

There is this very tiny incline just past the gate to get into the yard. So I get back on the motorhome & silly Trae, not realizing I havent sat back down yet, guns it to make the incline.  Me? I flew down the aisle (in my most graceful way) and landed like I had been body-slammed to the floor. Now, I will say I have finally discovered the advantage to having a fat ass, because it took most of the brunt... like a two cheeked shock absorber.  But alas, my muscle & hip did not get the memo that old ladies should not fall down...  and there ya have it.

But, the fracture is hairline & the hip isnt officially broken & for that I am grateful as hell. Tough to come back from a busted hip & we have another trip planned for May!

OH!, and I think under the circumstances I can legit blame Trae... so thats a bonus.

Rodney - My sleeping on rock days are also over. The motorhome has a queen bed that we actually find more comfy than the king at home. Its hardly roughing it.

These are great pictures.

Those really are great pictures, I might even swipe the one with tree in front of the clouds, and the duck one after that, and oh...I laughed at your Trae's facial expression!

We had company all day, so didn't watch much of the news, just now got a chance to glance at the different crowd scenes across the county.  Wow...
