I'm Starting to Sound Like Andy Rooney....

WHO???? (Before he died he was on 60 min. and was greatly admired for his common sense.)

Did you ever wonder why cars ride so closely to each other? I know I do.

I remember the days when you were supposed to leave 10 ft. for each car length between you for each 10 miles an hour you did. Now you are lucky to see daylight between 2 cars. What's the rush? Trust me, an accident will delay you AND cost you $. (That is assuming you did not leave soon enough to make it on time, if not EARLY. Or, God Forbid, you made it to a stoplight and it was RED ). Then what? Run it? NAH, we always see broken up cars on the news because someone ran a light. Ohhh, for 15 minutes of fame. REALLY?

I hate to say it, but people looking for recognition should do it legitimately (blog,) do not leave a child or pet in your car on a hot day, do not "livestream" and for heaven's sake, do not rob a convenience store. (They all have video nowadays.)

On another topic I wish candidates would quit spending their (our) $ on trash. Yes, some of us vote by mail and DO NOT want flyers to take to the voting booth. Who are these people? One more week of trash. I really hate paying for "trash" twice. NO on negative ads too. Who listens?? Not me, I already voted.

Sheila - you could just not give any money to candidates or their parties. Then you're not paying for their trash. :-)

About 25 years ago when my daughter, Two, had just got her drivers license, we were driving on the DC beltway in the 24/7 rush hour when she suddenly burst out about a nearby car so rudely leaving way too much space between it and the other car. Yeah, I wondered whether I should be letting her drive without me. She's still alive.

And I thought it was one car length for each 10 miles of speed. In which case Two would have been fine on the beltway since traffic didn't move much at all. No space needed.

I miss Andy Rooney....I finally realized that someone tailgating me was just waiting till they could get around me to pass.   The driving here in Hawaii is crazy.  Round and round this island with the rich people who can afford a traffic ticket speeding by the ones who cant afford any more tickets in the weird little pockets of speed control.  I have this island memorized after over a year...Island fever

Thank you koshersalaami!
Nerd...this was a rant...I don't give $ to any candidate.
Zanelle I miss him too. Island fever is real.
Thanks for the comments.

I bought my first car in Dallas-Ft. Worth in 1984, before that I drove Dad's car, so my real "learning to drive" happened there. The LBJ freeway will teach you how to tailgate like a pro. It makes me laugh now when these big ole trucks come up behind my tiny car and try to intimidate me into moving.

Funny thing, though. If you want people to move out of your way, come up close behind them. 99% of the time they will increase their speed. I think it's subconscious on their part because when I get to where I can move over they always slow down. Same with people who come up to pass, so many inadvertently match speeds so I slow down and they suddenly speed back up to the speed they had been going.

Traffic is some funny stuff.
