I received this today from a friend, and thought it so apt.  Not necessarily uplifting & positive - but more true to reality.

We can (& should) hope for better, but I believe accepting what comes our way and dealing with the here and now will

keep us grounded.  I'm thankful for a lot of old friends here on Our Salon & for lorianne for giving us this home.

Happy New Year! & Good Luck (we'll need it)

What can be said in New Year rhymes,
That's not been said a thousand times?
The new years come, the old years go,
We know we dream, we dream we know.
We rise up laughing with the light,
We lie down weeping with the night.
We hug the world until it stings,
We curse it then and sigh for wings.
We live, we love, we woo, we wed,
We wreathe our prides, we sheet our dead.
We laugh, we weep, we hope, we fear,
And that's the burden of a year.

Happy New Year to you, too, Marlene.

One of those odd coincidences. I am stranded here in this old farmhouse out in the bush, my mother's house where she used to live. I have been cleaning it out. There is an industrial size dumpster out back. The point is that I came across those old collection of American poetry, a "treasury of American verse" or something like that. I came across several poems in this old book by Ella Wheeler Wilcox and have been quite taken with her. Then, of all things, I stumble across her again here in your blog. Not an important enough event to justify this long comment, but I wrote a long comment anyway.
