The Enhanced people were putting on a show for the Decayed ones. The Decays didn't have all their parts in order, like new hearts or a mouth full of implants but they enjoyed a good show just like anyone. The Enhances knew they had special privileges because of their wealth and they looked good in the Extravaganza Shows. The one with a Halloween theme was always a big sell out.
The Decays flocked to the big stages and watched the Enhanced people perform stunts that they knew they could never aspire to. The extraordinary body parts were expensive and only a few could afford them. The legs with springs in them cost a million dollars and the wings were even more expensive. The Decays were in the majority but the real power of the society was in the privileged few.
The stage for the Halloween show was technically astonishing. There were thirteen screens the size of stadiums and the enormous seating area stretched for miles. The sky was lit up with magnificent light shows and there were flying, enhanced people doing stunts in every quadrant.
The Enhanced were sponsored by big corporations so of course the Decays were at the mercy of the best marketing strategies in the world. That was fine with them. Let the Enhancers take all the stress of their success as the Decays lived shorter but, some said, happier lives. There were rumors that the Enhanced people did not feel emotions in spite of their physical prowness and attractiveness.
However groups of Enhancers laughed and loved just like the Decays, it was just that they did it in private areas which cost lots of money to inhabit and were exclusive to Enhanced people only. The Decays and the Enhancers all were subject to death but the Enhanced were expected to live longer lives because of all the mechanical parts and therapies they could afford. The Decays decayed faster but they all ended up in the same compost pile.
The Enhancers are working on immortality for their next Halloween Extravaganza. I hope they don't succeed.
