2nd and last photo by Eli on my device. A good time was had by all. Saw formations like I've never seen before on the island near the dam.

nature imitates nature

native warrior witch doctor head rock

friendly prehistoric manatee flounder rock

and eel egg .? That one is a fossil no doubt, but what is it/was it? I now own it, inasmuch as one can own a petrified whatever

et cetera

Maybe it's a petrified upside down mushroom cap

Very very cool rock formations you discovered - and water is always key - looks like a very nice day!!

This is kind of how my weekends go, might have a lovely day exploring somewhere, take a bunch of photos, by the time I'd have put them together and posted a post, it would be midnight on Sunday, back east, and by the time most anyone saw it, it's Monday morning and no one wants to be reminded of a lovely weekend.  My train of thought, anyway....

Re-post later in the week?

I say so because more ought to be checking out these cool photos! - and yeah, I am really into geology, so maybe it's me.

I'm educatedly guessing the 'egg' was a much smaller rock, or large pebble, even, surrounded by sand, eventually sandstone.... I'd have taken it home too  : )

The shot above the egg.... it breaks like the igneous rock around here does, but you don't have igneous rock in Kansas do you? (I have no idea 'bout nothin' in Kansas) .... and the 'trails' through the other rocks... prehistoric giant worm trails? ha! no, trilobite trails!

Go study up and get back to us, okay?

Noticed after posting that the "witch doctor" head has ANOTHER head in his mouth. Long nose, eye, a sort of puppets' mouth; reminds me of an old German lithographer or something. How weird is that

Thanks to those who looked, even those who lurked as most do.

The "egg" is about the strangest thing I've ever discovered y'all, but then again this whole bank, only uncovered by erosion when Truman Dam was built  and the lake filled fifty sixty years ago, was/is replete with geology like I never, and several different types, all right there together. We were boat burnt like is prone to happen, so found soft sand to land, then got out out and started walking ... just wow. The color of the soft shale, bluish green, is like my favorite color. It's one of the constant elements there.

The trilobite tracks, HA, I mean what the fuck? We kept several specimens beside the eel egg or rock fungus (K). Might rent a bigger boat and go back to load up a bunch.

Anna, it's in Missouri about 70-80 miles southeast of the city. The town we stayed in is called Racket, no kidding, not far from Tightwad, no kidding. Was able to find a cabin last minute for Thursday and Friday but not Saturday. Eli begged Friday off which is the day we were out. Good thing for the cabin, because it rained, a lot. What a great father and son trip. Me and him really need it. Got back Saturday, driving in an ARK worthy deluge.
