Forty five years ago today, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave the prophetic speech which he concluded with his view from the mountain top of the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of black people in America...Less than twenty four hours later, he was dead....

While campaigning in Indiana, Bobby Kennedy was forced to make an announcement to an audience of supporters and well wishers, delivering the terrible news:

Two months later, on the 6th of June, 1968, he too, was dead....

I graduated from Howard University in Washington, DC, on the 15th of June, 1968....

The struggle, to which I have dedicated my entire life, continues....

"Some men see things as they are and say, 'why'? I dream things that never were and say, 'why not'?"

And may we all someday find that our children and grandchildren come to live in a world where  they "...are judged, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."  What a magnificent dream!  R&L

At age 16, I met and spoke with RFK at a campaign rally in mid-May of 1968. It was moment in time which I can feel and recall like it were yesterday. He called me by name after asking it and spoke to me of the fear his campaigners had for him but said he had to be out among the people. It's chilling to remember that conversation. I was just a boy being thanked by a hero for being out there and being told to stay out, that it had to be done.

Then he was gone.
