ELECTION-- Response to Ron, AKA, Kosh, @ Ron's Fine Piece

See I am not at all sure what you fellas expected to see last night...

what, had you seen it, would have led you to suggest we have turned a significant corner?

The Senate? A TX, GA, FL win? All three?

What, specifically, would have had to occur last night to have any of you say AHA...we are now on that Better Path! ?

America rarely moves forward in Sea-Change.

Even the under-law LGBT gains, seeming to many to have happened fast, took decades to effect...and are even now under widespread assault.

I did not think the change, the clear, better direction you fellas are discussing, were at all yet on the cards ... not yet... even as close as the Ds came in those three southern states.

Nevertheless, I wholly know that the change we seek will come...will take tons more work.

Great Wednesday!

Of course it will, but this is an indicator of where we are now, and what it says is how much work we have cut out for us.

The problem we face is and always has been the people who support and follow Trump....

They're not marching to the beat of a different drum...They're marching, in step, to the cadence of the American drumbeat that has been the metronome of American society since the founding of the nation...

That different drumbeat may be heard off in the distance of a future that won't be realized until the current drumbeat fades into the ether and becomes a chapter of a shameful history....

Hopefully a miniscule step has been taken in that direction...Time will tell... But not soon enough for those of us who are now in the closing stages of our lives....Some of us can here the drum beat of a better time and a better place and will march to that cadence until our tenure here is at an end...

All we can do now is leave our marching to the beat of a different drum as a legacy and an example in the hope that others can and will follow in our footsteps along the arc of history which ever bends toward justice...

The win of O'Rourke, Abrams and Gillum - all three - would have made me believe.  I had hope for Stacey.

I live in Trump country.  I knew how improbable that would be.  From county commissioner to Governor, Democrats lost everywhere in Georgia.  I was not surprised, but I am disappointed.

Things actually turned out better than I expected, but then, I keep my expectations low when it comes to politics. Yes, it would have been wonderful to see Beto win and Cruz humiliated.  and see a black man governor of FL and and a black woman governor of GA. And I would really have loved to see Massa Blackburn burned here in TN. But I did not expect any of that to happen, regardless of how much I might have hoped for it.

@TC; Given the closeness of the races you underscore, I would have published my post, regardless of the respective outcomes....

Brian Kemp (Rep)         Stacey Abrams (Dem)      Ted Metz (Lib.)
50.3%                           48.7%                               0.9%
1,973,099                     1,910, 390                       37,088
The Georgia governor's race shows the divide well.  Abrams is black and female and Brian Kemp is white and shameless.
Abrams is refusing to concede.  Absentee ballots were not counted (mine is one of those), and provisional ballots, 70% of which belonged to black potential voters weren't counted.  Abrams wants a run-off. It's still unlikely that she would win, but the fact that the split between those who preferred a white crook and everyone else couldn't have been sharper and was almost evenly split.
Strangely, the fact that Abrams almost won makes me hopeful.
