I wondered if things are the same here in the waterlogged Pacific Northwest as other places.
Maybe it has something to do with the pounding in our heads from rain hitting the roofs, winds lifting shingles, transformers blowing up when the lines are coated with ice, etc. It's become nerve wracking.
Before you tell me that winter is worse where you live though please consider that the National Weather Bureau ( I may have made that up, but it's similar) has deemed our winter to be the third most depressing winter in the nation.
Anchorage came in first. Well ya... It's about 9 months of dark up there and as you stagger from one bar to the next you can get trampled by a moose or dragged away by a bear. That's not good.
Seattle came in second because they think they invented flannel and coffee to warm you so they get all competitive about it. Except for the Space Needle I don't see what else they have going up there.
I have six and a half decades living in the region and this has really been ridiculous. It's been a greater change than most have experienced is what I think the difference is. We're used to running around all winter pruned up like a geriatric that couldn't get out of the tub, but the cold and ice were just too much. I'm certain there will be some good "Snapped" episodes though to come out of it. The local cyber rag has had plenty of those spousal crashes that happen when people have to actually hang out together instead of just showing up at holiday functions looking like all is well.
That brings me to the subject of the post.
I must have received 10 emails in the last two days on my bizmail reminding me to set my clock forward for Daylight Savings Time. Does somebody forget that they want the day to seem longer?
I don't actually understand the need to change it back and forth but it has something to do with kids and school bus routes and something else to do with mucking out the chicken pen, neither of which have anything to do with my daily life.
Which now brings me to the essence of my puzzlement.
Who thought it was a good idea to do this in the middle of the night?
Why can't we do it on Friday afternoon? Throw the clock forward and get out the hell out of the office sooner and into a dark bar nursing a Happy Hour drink like makes sense?
