Cover My Eyes

Cover my eyes silence all the lies
Hold my ears in your hands
For they come for us from foreign lands
The blood they spill staining their own sands,

Cover my fears there's been no peace in years
What kind of home shaped your life?
Why must you continue to prolong all this strife?
True blue I offered you right on cue,

But love was meaningless to you
Just another way of eluding what was true
Sadness much more familar than a sky of blue
Just when I thought I could see my rescue,

But life has a way of letting in dismay
And soldiers beneath their graves they lay
What about the casualties of love
Destined never to rise above,

A funeral pyre of long gone desire
It wasn't I who conspired
And now here we are ever so lonely
Telling ourselves so stupidly if only,

I'm lost without a trace
Memories drifting out in space
Forever floating in a sea of uncertainty
I'm not sure if I'll ever be free,

Still I hear the fool I know is me
Only a raw spin off of lies
As the fools watch their country die
Too caught up in the echoes from the sky,

Cover my eyes silence all the lies
Hold my ears in your hands
For they come for us from foreign lands
The blood they spill staining their own sands,

God speaks to me in the midst of this misery
All for a cup of sympathy
That's when I lay me down without a frown
The night closes in without a sound.
