I listened with a steadily rising gorge to the hearings yesterday during which one after the next congressional shill for the narrow interests of the Haves pretended not even remotely convincingly to care for the health needs of their Have-Not constituents whose old insurance plans must by law and quite properly now be ditched for not rising even to minimal levels of adequacy.

As I listened I was reminded of this fact:  overwhelmingly over the last three generations (and most likely ever since we have had a federal income tax) those states represented by these frauds have received from Washington  --  that is from the federal income taxes from people in states whose representatives overwhelmingly support fairness in health care  --  extraordinary sums, annually, far, far more than they have ever paid in to federal tax coffers.

This is to say, the states represented by people who have a genuine interest in improving the lot of the least among us have consistently voted to send their own citizens' tax monies to those states who traditionally are peopled by, in the aggregate, the-least-among-us.

This is to say, further, that the states whose representatives have a genuine interest in the least among us have been floating the states with the most of the least-among-us since anyone can recall...and yet those states have tended to be represented by people who don't care about the poor and the otherwise marginal among their own constituents.

In Matthew's earshot, we're told, the ancient rabbi said (26:40):

And far earlier than that man lived and died, the question was posed:

The answer's supposed to be YES.

Let them secede again. I'm tired of their talking re-secession while thimbing their noses on those who float them. Maybe Lincoln was wrong?

I have lived in a "former slave state" all my life.  Born in GA, lived in SC briefly and the majority in TN.   I am not rich.  Have always worked.  My mother was a public school teacher,  my father a butcher.  I am a nurse and am married to a nurse.  At 64 we are eyeing retirement with excitement.  We work 12 hr shifts, mostly on our feet.  We are tired.   We are liberal husband was a  Goldwater Republican when younger but he got more liberal.  He is also the child of working class people.

We have lived in the same county for over 30 years together.  We did not have children.  We gladly pay taxes to support the local schools to help give everyone an education.    We live in the country.  When we moved here there was no public water supply.  We dug a well (well we had it done).   We had pretty good water, some of our neighbors had awful wells.   When the opportunity to put in a water line came up, there had to be enough houses on the road to sign up in order for it to be done.  For several years we paid a small monthly fee before we hooked up, so our neighbors could have good water.  After a couple of winters when the power went out ( therefore no well) we hooked up to the system ourselves.    Our neighbors though scattered are still a community,  we help each other when needed.   We are I suspect surrounded by Republicans......most of the county is....they are still our neighbors.   Most of them are church goers, we are not.  That does not mean we  do not live by those basic lessons we learned as children.

Whenever I hear elected officials and some MDs and nurses with whom I work,  make comments about entitlements and people thinking that health care is a "right"......I wish for an Old Testament God to smite some people and tell them just how far they have strayed from the lessons.

As the daughter of a Depression surviving FDR Democrat,  I hope I remember all she taught me about what we have.

LSD   I think you embody those lessons. Bless you, friend.
