Astronomers Reveal First Photo of an Actual Black Hole

Astronomers Reveal First Photo of an Actual Black Hole:  Scientists say they have now have a photograph of something that was always believed to be “unseeable,” a supermassive black hole in the center of Messier 87 - a huge galaxy located about 55 million light-years from the Earth.

Of course, there’s always gonna be skeptics.  People who refuse to believe this photograph is really what astronomers say it is.  Some, will insist this picture isn’t from outer space at all and was actually stolen off the Pornhub website.  Others, will say this looks more like a photograph of President Trump - bending over in the shower after consuming way too many baked beans at a 4th of July campaign BBQ in rural Oklahoma.  And of course they’ll always be those who claim this is nothing more than a blurry photograph of a glazed donut.

But, putting all that nonsense aside, my primary concern is related to those always sensitive privacy issues.  Did any of these nosey astronomers ever consider that this galaxy may have moved 55 million light-years away because it didn’t want to be bothered by other galaxies?  Ever thought of that Mr. Hubble?  Geez, not to sound critical, but sometimes I think these damn astronomers act like a bunch of intergalactic paparazzi.

My understanding of a black hole has always been that the gravitational forces were so great that not even light could escape the pull.

Thus the term 'black hole'.

Yet, this photo shows something that is contrary to what has been considered common knowledge/wisdom...

If this is a 'black hole', the terminology is no longer valid...

If the ambient light around the object is the Messier 87 galaxy, then we are looking at something that is doomed to be consumed by its own belly button....

The fact that Messier 87 is 55 million light years away makes it possible that it may already be gone.

That would give new meaning, or atat least a different twist, to the phrase: "Watch this space."

Taking a picture of a black hole alone would be like taking a picture of the pupil of an eye with no iris. To take a picture of a hole, you need to see what it's a hole in.

Well, there's certainly a lot of speculation about that.  Perhaps a hole in space time?

'...I'd rather see you up than see you down...'

Leave it to Safe Betcha' Amy, to live out in a house that looks on over the ocean...!

seem to be on to something!

Open: junkyard of aeroplanes, more glint than sound; holy smackeral. Just boys munch frozen blueberries. They open a very large solar umbrella. Metal too hot to palm.

Careful there's jagged rusty STUFF all over. Don't walk there!
