Often before ... I have shed tears for an Andy ...

a Dunblane ... Andy ...

Tonight ... tears are here ... for a different Andy ...

whose birthday yesterday ... his thirtieth birthday ...

brought him to the microphones ...

to announce ... after some thought ... that this ..

this Open ... this one... playing now ... will be his last ...

Whenever he is done ... he will go home ... and embrace more ... that he loves ... for he will have given all he has ...

A young man from Australia ... tonight is the one to face him ...

this one, Tomic ...  knows what lies ahead ...

For all the sport we ever watch ...

tonight ... we watch ... a game ... of love ...

both sides of the court ...

may tonight ... this Andy ... feel that his love ... stands not alone ...

Not the most important moment of the day ...

and yet ...

to have given all one has  ... to something that one loves ... and yet to know when it is time ...

play well ... tonight ...

in the court you love ... most of all ...

Well ... so quickly and the game is done.  The younger player seems more daunted by the moment than the one who set the moment in play.  Another game ... but this one ... tonight ... in his favourite place ... under his favourite night sky ... perhaps this moment ... came for him ... so that a home audience could come ... and honour him.

May we remember the younger one who hoped perhaps to give his all ... as we remember the one who ... gives his heart ... in this tournament close to home ...

Lovely moment for him ... and still ... my own heart thinks of the other Andy ... who hopes ... as well ... and gives his all ...

moments to hold ... to distract perhaps ... from a world that can not seem to find its way ...

Thanks, Rita.  Was thinking of you and hours we've spent watching matches together with someone else.

Sorry about the long day but glad you had at least a glimpse ... of the moon last night.

Was thinking of us all last night.

Despite the rain ... with ... the rain ... one more night ... tonight ...

Still not the most important moment of the day ... distraction perhaps from a world in woe ... fitting in so many ways ... an evening ... in ... the rain ...

Thinking tonight ... of Dunblane's Andy ...

who may ... in a few hours ... be playing his last ... Australian Open ...

May you know, our Andy of Dunblane, how many hearts you have touched ...

May you know how loved you are ...
