Hollywood loves generic titles for its movies and television shows. Right now I'm seeing a trend in the (over)use of the word "American."  We have American Horror StoryAmerican CrimeAmerican Dad, and The Americans.  Coming soon we'll see American Odyssey,American GodsAmerican Crime Story, and American Pastoral.

Here's a list of the "American" movie and TV titles I unearthed before I gave up looking. (I stuck with just "American" and didn't include variations like Captain America or America's Got Talent.)

An American Affair
American Anthem
American Beauty
American Buffalo
An American Carol
American Crime
American Crime Story
American Crude

We appear a bit self-obsessed.

I noticed some of my comments on other posts disappeared too.  Strange.  But thank you for reading and commenting!  I would never delete any feedback.  :-)

Of the ones you listed, American Gangster, American History X and An American in paris stand out.  I'd also add American Me directed by and starring Edward James Olmos.  I saw it in the 90s and liked it a lot.

Leave it to Abra to recall American in Paris and the others he mentions here!

I had completely forgotten it myself.

Nick--do you mean to say that our members have been dropping comments here?

I hadn't noticed this phenomenon. I generally give fair warning first to anyone I see as demonstrating cruelty and/or rude behavior enough to where to Delete would be the solution.

I'm stunned at this bit of news---but are you sure they aren't simply "adminning" others' comments first?

It might just be the page turning on the comments.  That's what happened to me.  I thought they were lost, and they were just a few clicks back.

After living abroad, it's funny to see us portrayed (by ourselves) as the center of the universe.  Unfortunately, it's how we self-obsess!!

It's telling isn't it Nick, that so many pieces of work are titled this way.

Do you think it's really these times however? Mark Twain's "An American Abroad" comes to mind.

BTW: I like the delete button. It's like hanging up on a phone solicitor.

"The Americans" is actually a good show. My old band buddy is writer/producer. He quit rock and roll for writing in the 70s, and I stuck with it. Look where we are now! (I'm actually on Our Salon at the moment, so not too bad.)
