American Hypocrisy: Trump at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier or the Tomb of the Unknowns is a monument dedicated to U.S. service members who have died without their remains being identified. Having no officially designated name, it is located in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia, United States of America.

Somebody somewhere voted for a man that sought and received 3 medical deferments to avoid the draft....

Somebody somewhere voted for a man who thinks Americans who died on the field of battle or were POWs are losers...

Somebody somewhere voted for a man who would dishonor the memory of soldiers who fell in the line of duty while fighting to preserve, protect, and defend the rights of somebody somewhere....

As the 'publicity hound in chief ' Trump could not possibly hold a modicum of respect or reverence for someone who died in service to his country without anyone knowing his name....

And the whole world knows it...

I agree totally.

If I were a combat veteran I would spit in Trump's face.

For that matter, I'd spit in General kelly's face too, because being a retired Major General who never served in combat (being senior staff way in the back of a combat zone does NOT count, IMO), yet who supports the Warmonger In Chief to the hilt is deserving of scorn, as well.

While I absolutely agree about Trump’s contempt for the military, as President he has to go to the Tomb. It may be galling to see him there, but it would also be galling not to see him there, probably more galling, because his absence would indicate a greater lack of respect given his office.

Ron, I assume you’ve been to the Tomb, particularly given both your service and your education in Washington. For those reading who haven’t been, I’d recommend going. There is a guard marching back and forth with the precision of a Swiss watch. The guards are changed every half hour during the day in warm weather, I think so more visitors can watch the change, including the white glove rifle inspection, also done with complete precision. A guard is there 24/7, all weather, since 1937. The guards are, from a military standpoint, totally for real. They are the most elite members of the oldest active duty infantry unit in the Army.

Trump’s presence in circumstances such as honoring those who died in defense of this country and it's principles is a national disgrace....

It's more than galling, it is, by any measure, very sad....

We, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf, deserve much better....

What's galling is the spectre of those who put Trump in office, wrapping themselves in the flag and calling themselves patriots while embracing Trump’s presidency...

Trump’s presence in the office is a national disgrace. Claims to patriotism by those who put that man in office are a disgrace. But should he go or should be not? Of course his presence would be a disgrace, but would his absence be a bigger disgrace? Given who we have as President, what do you think he should do this weekend?

He will go; he should not. Bone spurs my eye. If Drumpf didn't want to go to Nam, like many others who I won't criticize personally because it was hard to figure out what was going on, and because it was legally a way to put yourself in jeopardy with the feds, or "eh" become Canadian, what took the same kind of courage that going went was to FIGHT IN THE STREET with blood and guts of our own, to be shot and gassed in the Park, to be killed at Kent State, to be infiltrated by an FBI run by a closeted gay psychopath who was out to do anything- drug, incarcerate, or even kill any "dissidents" to their so called war against Domino Theory, an bullshit propaganda tool embraced only by killer dictators like Suharto who benefited immensely from it. Veterans should push McCain in his wheel chair to the front of the line, and leave the coward with Hair for Men and an orange tanning booth spray far away.

@Kosh; He could apologize to Khizr Muazzam Khan and Ghazala Khan the Pakistani Americans he insulted.

They are the Gold Star parents of United States Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed in 2004 during the Iraq War, whose memory he besmirched.

And he could invite them to Arlington National Cemetery to either accompany him as he lays the wreath or to lay the wreath themselves on behalf of all of those American families who have made the ultimate sacrifice...

But then, that would require for more class and humility than Trump is capable of and than his followers and supporters can understand....

There are things that he can do without being present that show respect, reverence, and appreciation...

His being there is little more than a trashy joke in the eyes of the world. It makes us a disgrace and a laughing stock...

Very sickening and sad...

The ONLY thing Drumpf can do to show respect is NOT SHOW UP. There is no spot for TRAITORS there.

Were the history of this nation represented as a braided rope one of the initial, most enduring, weathered and dependable braids would be hypocrisy.

I get that Trump the man has no place there other than perhaps with the apology Ron suggested. But should the President be there? Should the Office be there?

I don't think ANY President should have the unmitigated gall to show up with a mile of gold star families who are grieving and honoring fallen service members.

There hasn't been a US President in the last 100+ years that didn't wage war for the benefit of the corpocracy and/or try to inflict "democracy" on people who didn't want it...  all of which cost untold numbers of wasted human lives.
