Alice's Restaurant --- The Actual Lesson Learned

Litterbugs suck, teen-agers will dump trash in the simplest way they can figure out, but, there is ONE thing about the story, song, movie (this is a great film for those who want to see what the 60s were really like. Face it, you can't get more authentic than Arlo) and that is the following line from the song:

"If you want to end war and stuff you got to sing LOUD!"

And we did, lesson learned and times have not changed all so much.

Thanks J-Dub for the newspaper clipping, they look so quaint these days ...

I remember the first time I heard it driving (at high speed, naturally) the 60 miles back to my job about 3 a.m. I was laughing so hard I damn near drove off the road. A masterpiece.

If I'd only known that dumping garbage could get you out of that war – instead I t-boned a Buick with my motorcycle.

Tom, you really made sure to be 4F ... I mean, it had to be a BUICK! Basically a M104 Wolverine, couldn't you have headed for a little Austin Healey or even a 3 wheel Morgan? But, don't feel bad, after riding nearly every day since I was a five year old on a mini bike with a chainsaw engine I got t-boned into a palm tree by a sightseeing tourist (now, could I have been speeding on a KZ 1000?-nah, no way :) and haven't been on two wheels since. The thing was, that happened nearly a decade after the draft ended!

Surfer Dude

Ha! Even t-boning a Buick didn't keep them from calling me back for a second physical in '68 (I failed again). By then, the military was so desperate for cannon fodder, the marines drafted for the first time in history.
