It is Saturday, the sun is out, the shin-high grass is soggy, and I think the voles still live here. Not as many, thanks to the cats feasting on the all you can eat buffet I opened for them, but still some. As soon as it's dry enough I will be out mowing down the grass again and sprinkling more blood.

Until then, I want to share my new umbrella with you! It is a half umbrella and I have a metal stand with feet so it won't mark up the deck. It comes off the bottom half of the pole easily so I can put it away when I'm not using it.

I also drew in my owl this morning, now to paint it. I combined a screech owl and a saw-whet from the pictures in my 1969 Funk & Wagnall's Standard Reference Encyclopedia. My sister's and I learned to play rummy from those books, no one could beat us.

Dishes are done, and I'm going to check the grass again. Have fun out there.

I just found a freshly dead vole, I buried it in one of the abandoned holes. Very sad.

Poor vole.  I bet it was suicide.  Just ignore the cat sized bite marks and I'm sure you will agree.

I ADORE that half umbrella!  I've got the perfect place to put one of those suckers!  THANKS!!!

There were no marks on the vole, it may have died of fright. Or drowning.

This here Phyllis, telltale tracks of the larger and more treacherous vole, the Missouri Mole. Sure, they could come out and walk across the earth like a normal animal, but no, instead they are inclined to travel inches below the surface, which to me is just weird.

I will refrain from posting a pic of our deck but yours is very nice, well done, and that damned half umbrella ... who knew?

That half umbrella is a great idea.

Owls? I suppose you could always get these for your deck

I have started painting the owl, it's amazing how a 2-D piece of wood gains depth by adding color. I like those speakers, kosh!

I hope to see pictures of everyone's half umbrellas soon.
