A Lesson From a Photograph of a Wall - and a New Year's Wish

C

Elia Photo Service

This is a picture of the Kotel, known in English as either the Wailing Wall or the Western Wall. It is one wall supporting the side of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, on top of which Solomon's Temple was built and also where the Second Temple was built. Now there are a pair of ancient mosques on top of the mount, called Al Aqsa and the Dome of the Rock.

This picture was taken in 1900. It shows Jews worshipping at the Wall.

What's unusual about it?

Back then, men and women obviously prayed together at the Wall. They don't any more, like the Jews of today know so much more about how things are supposed to be done than Jerusalem's Jews did over a century ago.

May 2013 be a year when we learn to rank our priorities and not to devote so much energy to that which is both inflammatory and unimportant

and may 2013 be a good, healthy, and prosperous year for you and yours. May you suffer no significant losses this year.

Wishing the same for you, Kosh, and for everyone else.

My year began ... interestingly - the new grandson, Judah Davis H., was born 6 weeks before his due date, 6lb 6oz, well developed and healthy. I hope it's a good omen for the rest of the year.

Nerd Cred,

Mazel tov!

Interesting name. Very cool names in a very unusual combination.  6 lb/6 oz is plenty big.

I forgot to say, what an interesting picture. It seems live everyone everywhere went backwards through the 20th century. This surprises me.

Someone local sent it to my wife. Once she showed it to me, I had to base a post on it.
