30 minute flash blog ... me and Pablo Escobar

Good afternoon. Not having a lot of time to write but I want to; been enjoying it some of late. Call me strange, but I can barely do it if someone is watching. But ah, someone is gone right now, working, because someone has to do it. Work. Ha. I'll be off my ass soon enough. Okay, so I have thirty minutes to get out what I can .. no edits, flash blog mode. 3:57pm 10 feb16. GO!

I've tried to be wary of getting caught up in netflix series this winter. You know, the ones that have five seasons and seventy episodes, all forty two minutes or more. That's like a week and a half watching based on a forty hour work week. Could be reading real books, exercising, or other things that I should do. So yeah I avoid those and therefore the guilt. Found me a nice one I thought, last week. Pablo Escobar El Patron Del Mal .. ONE SEASON. This is manageable, and subtitles .. I can get past that. True as I expected, after even the first one, I was on board. Pablo was kind of a fat kid but very clever. Not as tough as wiley and crazy ambitious. Appears to actually be filmed in Medellin and Colombia at large. The settings are colorful and gorgeous. The characters are also colorful and seem very real.

Many of the names have been changed but some haven't, so that's confusing. I remind myself as I watch that this is history, and that it affected my life directly, although barely aware at the time of what was up in Colombia. I was struggling through the end of my tenure at a long term employment gig when much of this stuff was happening. Pablo Escobar, Carlos Lehder, and the rest of those guys, narcotrafficantes who happened to also be ranchers, which was their 'cover' (everyone knew) .. were flooding immeasurable tonnage of cocaine into America, and much of it made it into me. Cocaine was the bain of my existence, but I couldn't stay away from it as much as I tried.

I was fired from my gig, nine years employed, in April of 1986, as the Medellin Cartel were knocking off politicians, police, military, journalists, anyone who spoke against them or couldn't be bribed. Silver .. or lead, those were you choices.

4:27pm ... TIME LIMIT

Later .. here's a pertinent video. Oh! Turns out, the series is, yes, one season ... but seventy four episodes! Figured that out around #20 when I checked. Now on 27 .. sigh

I managed to avoid the troubles by knowing it was half baby laxative by the time it made it up to the PacNW.

The idea of having my nose erupt into an endless stream of goo outweighed any fascination with being buzzy.

We don't have enough bad weather to get me going on "episode" TV either.

aka I wonder what is it was about me, not that I was alone. I knew people that could take it or leave it like you. Sometimes though it was pearly bevel-edged bricklets, el puro via El Peru. Funny, even the anticipation makes you have to shit, forget the cut. Also strange in my story is that all of a sudden one day I didn't care about it anymore, at all. Talk about extremes. I swear I'm genetically challenged. But, still alive. If it weren't for the lead pipes in the Dotte I could have been a contender.

Is it the history channel that has the gangs and gangster documentaries about every night?  I love that guy's voice, it's so soothing as I doze off on the couch listening to what all's been going on over the years.  We were in Jacksonville, FL in and around 1985 and seriously, at the time I had no idea but now that I look back on it, I can see it.  I'm glad you came thru on the other side.  I had some friends that didn't.

Somehow I knew from a very early age that my family history put me at risk for addiction and I stopped anything I liked too much. In junior year of high school I drank a lot of rum really fast and knew it was a danger sign. I don't know how I knew that in 1966 but I didn't drink again for a while. (Until after senior year.) The only drug I loved was amphetamine so it's probably just as well I was never exposed to cocaine. And Scotch. At 21 I went through a time of loving Scotch so I stopped buying it. Now it's gin. I'm not going to stop drinking gin.

Netflix - I'm watching West Wing, start to finish. I'm in season 5. I love it.

Pablo had a girlfriend .. young, a virgin when they met. She got pregnant and came to El Patron (Pablo) with the good news. Well, not being his wife, he didn't share the joy. So he lied and invited her to his ranch at Napoles and while assuring her he would welcome the child and raise it, his cousin Gonzalo snuck from behind and chloroformed her to sleep. Rancho Napoles was a wildlife park/zoo plus there were many prize horses etc., and veterinarians were kept on staff. And to the vets is where they took the young girl, for a forced abortion.
