DeVos Proposes the Deletion of Federal Funding of Special Olympics From Department of Education Budget

The Department of Education program budget is being cut by 12% across the board, while the line for executive pay in that department is being increased by 15%.

How is this action being taken against the must vulnerable and defenseless segment of our society consistent with the notion that: "Congress has the power to lay and collect taxes in order to promote the general welfare."?

OK, I reread it.

It has become clear as crystal to me that one of the prerequisites to becoming and staying wealthy in this country is the willingness to shed all empathy toward others and acquire and retain a willingness to not only cause harm to others, but to profit by doing so and thus enrich oneself at the expense of the pain and suffering of others....”

The Kennedys have stayed wealthy. Is it by exploitation? Is that your take on the politically involved  grandkids?

There is not a difference in how they gained wealth, but after that, well, let’s look at the subject of this post. One family is trying to end the Special Olympics. Another legislated ADA into existence.

One can make the case that the Kennedy's involvement with the ADA is a direct result of their personal experiences with family members...

One in particular:

Eunice Kennedy Shriver, one of John F. Kennedy's sisters, founded the Special Olympics. And some of her inspiration came from a less recognized member of the Kennedy family: her older sister Rosemary.

At age 23, her father scheduled a lobotomy, without telling his wife, Rose. “It went terribly wrong” and left her with limited motor and speaking skills, Shriver says....

The politically involved grandchildren are living as products of the wealth of their grandfather and privileges that come with great wealth...There are members of the 1% class of individuals somewhere who are assisting the Kennedy's in staying wealthy...

In my view , the Kennedy's have always been limousine liberals who can't be credited with much re the civil rights movement, which was LBJ pretty much all the way...

John maybe, I don't know about Robert, though he wasn't around long enough.

The fact that Ted Kennedy got involved in ADA because of personal experience in no way diminishes the achievement of ADA, nor invalidates the morality of his involvement.

How do you view entertainers who got rich?

Comment by Ron Powell on March 29, 2019 at 9:43am

Rich entertainers and athletes are part of the 1%...

They are not. Icons of old school establishment wealth...

I'm thinking , Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Kennedy, Bush and the like....

Entertainers have money but little real power...

As things are Oprah won't have any descendents...Obama won't get rich enough to qualify...

Your statement wasn't limited to old school wealth. I'm wondering if you just equate wealth with oppression.

"I'm wondering if you just equate wealth with oppression."

I'm wondering if you believe that the families/persons with great wealth (especially when they started from considerable wealth) might not actually oppress others.

I challenge you to name even a couple of the 25 richest families in American that have actually earn their money through the fruits of their own labors and that have not taken unfair advantage of others or caused others hardship.

I'm wondering k/s why you'd beat your head against the wall?

What would the father of a special needs child and the author of more postings on income disparity in the USA than all other bloggers combined on this site really have to offer on these topics?

OK , so let's take a look at my statement:

"... one of the prerequisites to becoming and staying wealtby..."

Apparently this is where you're having aome difficulty adducing the meaning. and purpose here...

I'm talking about people who work at being wealthy...

Not people who work at developing a skill or at an art, or their bodies, or even their minds and become wealthy as a consequence..

But, people who seek wealth for the sake of being wealthy...

I'm talking about people who are greedy and selfish sociopaths...

Ron, but that’s a tautology. Of course greedy sociopaths are greedy sociopaths. If you meant something other than what you said, say so.

The prerequisites for getting wealthy and staying wealthy are not necessarily the same. That’s why I used the Kennedys as an example.

I’ll give you a different example. Here in upstate NY there’s a family called the Wegmans. They’re billionaires. They got that way through the growth of their supermarket chain. They offer a very big selection in certain areas. They are listed as one of the best companies to work for in the United States. They work with all sorts of local producers and support all sorts of organic efforts. They have one of the highest rated if not the highest rated pharmacies in this area. They’re heavily involved in charitable ventures. From what I can see, they got wealthy right.

We’ve seen a lot of exploitation as of late. The question is whether that’s inherent in wealth. That’s not something I’d assume.
