One Sentence on a Thursday: Why liberals hate Trump to an extent conservatives don’t get

Liberals are first and foremost about protecting the vulnerable and we have never seen a President who so universally despises the vulnerable, which for us is a cardinal sin, perhaps The cardinal sin.

Thank you Ron for pointing out in PM that today is Thursday. Title changed.

Reform Judaism actually shares a lot of characteristics with Jesus’ priorities, though that’s more or less coincidence.

In biology that is called convergent evolution. It is hard to exclude cross fertilization, but likely it was independently realized.

Reform Judaism actually started out in Germany in the nineteenth century as a way for people to stay Jewish while being more German, but that’s not what it evolved into and, in Germany, I can’t say it worked.

The difference between Reform Judaism and a lot of the Orthodox movements is a lot more than level of observance. It’s also focus. They like ritual and legalisms, we like social justice.

excellent point, kosh. i was ranting to our great senator jeff merkeley from this state of oregon, on facebook, about the GOP having no compassion at all? none. how chilling it is. and how i don't understand it and it terrifies me. the orangatun in chief? oh my god. couldn't his father have hugged him once in a while????????? instead of giving him money? and/or his mother?????

the O in C is, shit, there are no words. almost another species.

i was asking jeff, don't they know one fucking person who isn't fucking rich????? don't they know anyone who is in a vulnerable situation? their illegal housekeepers? gardeners? what about children? do they really want their children/grandchildren asking them, in the biodome, what was it like when the sky was blue? when we could walk around out there?

Theodora, conservatives do have compassion, but it is tribal and limited to those considered worthy of compassion.  A conservative may feel very bad for his conservative friend who lost everything through bad investing and has had to move out of the neighborhood to a non-gated community while having no compassion for someone who lost their job and is on the street.  They might have more compassion for their sick cat than for that now homeless person.

I have had conservative friends in the past and hove some now.  As kosh said, I know how they think.  I just don't like it.  It seems almost alien to me.

oh god, rodney, same with me. so alien to me. the bottom for me, no, there have been so many many many bottoms. but when he was viewing the wildfire damage and called the lost town Pleasure. not the name.

oh and when i found out that when he got a call that the towers had fallen, he said, now my building is tallest in new york. you can't make this shit up. history is not going to look kindly on this period of time.

"history is not going to look kindly on this period of time."
History often concentrates more on individuals than on the zeitgeist. We will all be dead and gone and I am glad. I would not like to hear how they describe the dismal state of democracy during which time there were enough ill-informed, self-centered people that a narcissistic ex-reality show star was elected president. I just hope that chapter ends, "and then reason prevailed and an administration followed that had the good of the American people at heart."
