This morning my wife received a condolence note on line over the death of our son. It seems this woman went to elementary school with him, decided to look him up on Facebook, found his page, discovered he’d died, and wrote a note to my wife.

He died on January 8, 2012.

I’m wondering if we’ve seen the last of these. Another happened about a year ago, different path to finding out.

I imagine it is difficult to read those as a surprise note.

I think good taste should have precluded her from the assumption that you'd want such a jolt out of the blue.

I don't know. It's also good to know he's remembered, but my wife I think could have done without it.

Twice I've gotten Facebook prompts to wish someone a happy birthday only to go to their site and find that it is now a memorial page.

Those actually serve a really good purpose.  They let friends and family share stories and give those who haven't heard notice.

Kosher, I hope if it wasn't good for your wife yet, that it will warm her heart some soon.  I went to the grave of a girl who was a best friend in middle school, knew her whole family.  But I had never been to the grave bc I was living away when she died.  So about 25 years later I decided I HAD to go to see her grave right now and that was all there was to it.  I remembered her often, but not gone.  I left, and stopped at a gas station, and who was there but her older brother.  Told him I had just been, and he said it meant a lot that she was not forgotten.  Sending you and your wife love.  <3
