So about 6 years ago, I figured it might be fun to pick up a paintbrush again. As a kid, I loved to draw and paint and mess with art stuff, but soon, my younger brother, who is a really gifted artist was producing work and getting a lot of attention, so you know, why bother? Something took all the joy out of drawing and painting for me and I was almost 50 before I tried it again.
Ours was and is a great place to come for friendly feedback, so I posted a few pix of paintings I'd made. I saw that Tr ig had commented on one of them and was a bit apprehensive about reading the comment. The man didn't know the meaning of the word "filter". Well, at least I'd get honest critique. The comment read: "You got skillz" and it made my day.
I rediscovered the joy--of being creative with paint, of just losing myself for a few hours, of honing my "skillz". When I paint and I'm trying something new or tricky, I think of Steve.
This one is a work in progress. Inspired by an old photo of Philly in the 80's, posted by someone on FB, I'm not a plagiarist, so I'm adding my own, unexpected elements. If you remember Dr. Seuss's "To Think that I Saw That on Mulberry Street", you'll be halfway there. Dragons are involved.
