My pride is not a commodity

it has no corporate sponsors

no bank account

no value on the stock exchange

no politician can appropriate it

no clergy can fire and brimstone it

no parent can put a curfew on it

no course can teach it

It grew from years of being

ridiculed and beaten for who I was

whether I was trying to fit into

the straitjacket of being male

or female

or something only I could define

it survived Catholic school

the streets of my childhood

the condemnation

of those who were in charge

of what was considered sick

and who was considered sane

it raged like a wildfire when

so many in this country

let my friends die of a disease

they considered a just punishment

now it won't be joining the military

or working for the Fortune 500

it won't come into fashion

or go along with the status quo

no matter how many rainbow flags

it waves

Of all the things I despise (and its a long list), pinkwashing is in the top 3.  Like you I fucking EARNED my pride and I'll be damned if I will willingly let people abuse it or use it to promote their agendas (which usually suck).

yep, I'm with you...their agendas are usually about making money or getting elected or getting ahead and leaving the rest of us behind...

Big parade today in my town, without any corporate crappity, thankfully. The local bank had a float, but weren't trying to cash in.

They do this with breast cancer too, and it makes me crazy. Walking up and down the supermarket aisle in October with one remaining boob and there's pink ribbon floor cleaner and air freshener and shampoo containing carcinogenic stuff. Grrr.

Happy Pride though!
