Shrikes and Butcherbirds: Berkeley Undermines the Academy's Core

On Berkeley's cancellation of Ann Coulter's talk--

Given Berkeley's concerns, hiring additional security would be reasonable; censorship is not.
Our nation and our schools have survived far worse division than we now endure without shredding the Constitution, a move Ms Coulter, who will get her fee, will use to further infect minds on the Far Right and Far Left always too ready, as she is, to abandon the Constitution. When in hell will self-righteous prigs learn? What further horrors will have to ensue before some on the Left grasp that freedom, liberty, and Democracy can never be protected by censorship in the sad, old, flimsy guise of 'safety'? The Bill of Rights is not what the censorious of the Far Left/Right want or have ever wanted.

We cannot abide and must be altogether done with academia undermining its own Liberal Arts Core Project. There are more than enough off-campus shrikes and butcherbirds whose aims include that death.

You're welcome... and it's not just left or right, there are plenty of people with axes to grind: To Kill a Mockingbird and Huckleberry Finn banned from schools in V....  I'm just shaking my head.

it's lazy and it's a kind of pandering.  it's much easier to censor.

I notice that the far right is more afraid of freedom than the left.  This is strange since the practice flag worship and claim that they are more patriotic than the soldiers who give their lives for a cause that they themselves do not fully understand.

These backwards steps are demoralizing.

This is what occurs when nonacademics are placed in positions of authority or policymaking....

Running an acedemic institution like a business  is a counterproductive conundrum.
