My wife and I own 2 retired racing greyhounds. Greyhounds are a special breed. (Yes they are, please don't argue). We walk ours with a greyhound group every Sunday.

Today there was a party at the end of the walk. And yes, these dogs DO know each other. They look forward to Sunday.

Why are we supposed to cut pet pictures if you don't? If I did, Theodora would kill me.

I like dogs. Glad to know that greyhounds are still being adopted rather than destroyed after their "useful" life as racers are over. And I really like the idea of the party. Good on the lot of you.

Do all greyhounds race or do they have a choice?  I like the "dog's age" system better than human birthdays - I'm thinking of adopting it myself!  R&L

Hi Marilyn: greyhounds are split into 2 groups, those raised for racing and those raised for show.  Show hounds are a rare breed and are not raised like racers (different diet and so forth).  Racing hounds are raised more or less on a farm.  The need large grounds to excercise and are actually trained as athletes - so weights are put on their backs and they run up hills.  The like to run and most do well in the first few races.  But a few racers never actually race for a number or reasons.  Very small females won't be raced - they get bumped by the big males - our first hound was such a dog.  And some are simply not interested.  Our first to retired racers never raced at all.  Our 2 current hounds race a lot, Aggie had 110 races and was fast.  Mickey had 170 but was slower.
