scanner is in the hospital, on a ventilator

update from terri:

kenny is in the hospital, on a ventilator.  they also have him sedated, to control his BP and heart rate.  the cancer has spread, and things do not look good right now.

the bright spot is that he still recognizes terri and their son, so that is very good.

i know he has fought this long and hard, and with amazing grace and dignity, and always with concern for all of our feelings, when talking about it.

i dont think in fact, that he could have fought harder, or with more grace, or with more love.

and when he is ready to let go, i told terri, he will get to see his dad and mom and all the pets he has loved - i dont know about for everybody, but i love the idea of my pets being there too.  and its not just an idea - i KNOW our loved ones and our pets are up there.

i cannot write a poem for kenny.  i have tried, but sometimes, as you may know, when you really love someone, its hard to do them justice with your art.  like my friend whose dad could NOT paint her daughter, because he loved her too much.

terri is naturally sad, he is the love of her life, and she is his.  so that goes without saying, and if you are friends with scanner on facebook, go ahead and find terri and friend her, too.  she's gonna need us, and i think even now, we are a community that comes together.

here is a poem i found, that i think speaks of things very well.  its by Beatrice Dahlen.

May your days and nights be filled with peace,
And may those you love be near.
May the solace of that closeness
Banish any hint of fear.

May the joy you've brought to others
Fill your soul now with that light,
And the memories of happy times
Fill your dreams through darkest night.

For you've lent your strength to many.
You've upheld us in our strife.
Now let those of us who love you
Let you know just how your life

Has been the brightest beacon
For you've shown us how to bear
With great dignity and courage
Both the bad times and the fair.

As a mentor and a leader
You have always been our guide.
As a friend there's been none better.
May you know all this with pride.

All our prayers and thoughts are with you.
May you feel their soothing grace.
May our care and loving hold you
Here within that sacred space.

And may God then grant you courage
When the time to fight is o'er
And be waiting for you smiling,
When you reach his lofty door.

For you'll be borne by angels
That our Lord has sent for you
And in wholeness be rewarded
All your pain will then be through.

i cant add anything, except to say again how much scanner's friendship has meant to me over the past seven years now, i think it is.  from the first post i ever read, he wrote with honesty, and humility, and love.  and humor!

I'm not much of a poet but I do remember this Irish Blessing:

and may you be a half hour in Heaven before the Devil knows you're gone.  God go with you Kenny.

peter - i believe wholeheartedly with no doubt, in heaven, and it being all we imagine or hope it to be, or even more.

and mac - the irish sure do know the good blessings.

I'm so, so sorry to hear this. Scanner was a friend on OS. I haven't been around in awhile, but I saw this post and decided to come in to express my condolences. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Thanks for the update. When I've been at services the last few months, a prayer comes up called Misheberach, the prayer of healing. They say or chant it and go around the room asking the congregants for the names of people who need prayers and Ken Sibbett has been one of mine.

Thanks for this great tribute to our friend.  Scan Man was my first friend in the blogosphere on Open and his opinions meant so much to me.  That Man Can Write!!!  I will find Terri and friend her.  Peace for you Scanner wherever you go and whatever you do.   I like to think that in death I don't have to go up or down,  I can go sideways.  Slide on by.  Thinking good thoughts for my friend.

All my love to Kenny and Terri. Scanner and I were fans of each other on Open, have cheered each other on FB, and I'm sad to hear this. He's been fighting incredibly hard for a long while now. Prayers for peace and serenity to beloved Scanner and his family.
