Two White Bowls (OS Archives 2014)

They are simple bowls, smooth, white porcelain, vertical sides with rounded lip, sturdy - the stamp on the bottom says '1951' in black-bold numerals printed in a no-nonsense font. 

The shining stack of white entranced me when I first saw it, enough that I stood beside, taking a bowl from the top and caressing its side absent-mindedly, lost in novel consideration of a previously un-thought-of future, one…

On the Way to a Birth (OS Archives 2014)

12:30pm, 18 December 2014

"I don't know," I hear my oldest son say through the phone, as if it is his reply to every question asked - which likely it is - for he and his partner/girlfriend are awaiting the birth of their second child.

She will be Lilly. Lilly Noel.

She is due today.
