Hey guys, can you believe it's already 2017? I can't. And I can't believe I forgot to post the Prompts and Stories Lists for last month. I am so, so sorry. January was crazy and February has started out like that, as well. But I hate making excuses. I'm sorry and I messed up and I'm hoping it won't happen again.
Here are the prompts:
1. Write a story inspired by this photo:…Continue
Ack! I screwed up and posted the latest episode out of sequence. This is what I meant to publish:
Christiane was not to be deterred. After the meeting ended Ari Weiner asked her out for lunch and as they casually strolled across the grounds to the museum restaurant at the Art Garden, Ari said, “Rumor has it that…Continue
I can't believe it's been over two years since I last did any work on People of the Book - Discovery. This is the latest installment... Mike Jerrod – The Texan archeologist from the Albright Institute of Archeological Research is the man who smuggled the Sidon's Scrolls out of Lebanon. Ariane – The Baroness is an American Jewess who married into French Nobility. Jean Levy is a mutual friend, an Israeli antiquities dealer and political fixer with shadowy connections through the…Continue
Reposted in response to tr ig's recent nostalgic Open Salon post...…Continue
I was all alone now, sitting in a dark room ,trapped inside my own head.
The visions of madness, insanity, life, death, future, past and the present danced there.
The words bent under the weight of the world's problems.
Solitude, loneliness, are my only friends inside this broken shack.
Heretics slapped up random words -
We are one.
Imaginary words thrown up at the screen to see what…Continue
I'm more often awake at 5 a.m. Pacific Time than I am not.
In an effort to keep myself entertained at such an early hour, I make coffee, feed and play with my Bengal for a few minutes and then get online.
A group of 5 of us begin e-mailing. These guys are all over-educated, wickedly good writers and screwy. I don't know why they include me.
Well yes I do. I've known them most of a half century. We let in 2 with a conservative bent to act as our foils so behind…Continue
At 6 a.m. on Saturday I pulled the balcony door open, flipped the gas fireplace switch on next to it, wrapped myself in a blanket and watched the horizon's faint glow. The heavy fog peeled back from the sea stacks as the day began to unfurl.
I took deep breaths as the world's most photographed rock, Haystack Rock began…Continue
There is a type of fiction, held in bad taste, and at times resultin in lawsuits, in which a true story is told and the character’s names are changed, termed a roman a clef. Literally, in French this means “novel with a key”.
Novels are probably never written without some reference to people the author has known with those individuals character traits and actions given to characters in the novel and woven into the plot. That is considered to be part of the process, and done…Continue
For many of us, the air is getting colder, and thoughts are turning to autumn and to one of the most fun holidays out there, Halloween.
So for this month, why not try a Fall/Halloween marathon? Try writing one story a week, of any length (even very short, flash fiction) with one or both of these themes? You could even take it a step further, focusing on, say, stories about your favorite kind of monster or the monster that scares you the most - the…Continue
“Oh these, these are my husbands experiments, It was important, he said, for teaching.” Mrs Sutherland smoothed her day dress. “This is the research for the future. Our daughters future, darling.”
She smiled and welcomed the tall intruder into the dark study off the main hall way. Her natural warmth found it’s voce. “He was such a charmer, a man for all the…Continue
You know that saying "When it rains, it pours"? Such has been my September. I am so, so sorry that these prompts are coming so late.
So, to make the most of what limited time we have, why not try to go small?
This month, try to write a story, dialogue, or descriptive scene of 50-100 about each of these topics:
You can do whatever you like with these prompts - write something for each, write…Continue

I'm in a sad place tonight - so I've been writing -
The world is imploding, distant memories, the Goddess is dying, because we killed her, with our toxic fumes, our industry, and we don't care. "We'll find another planet!" I had someone scream at me back in my college days, a mining engineer and a professor of the same something. I tried to laugh. "Mine the planet, we'll get to the rest later....." We are parasites, killing our host, slowly but surely, without a care, we…Continue
Somewhere, in an parallel universe, the Gods(two monkeys in drag but they like to call themselves the Gods of War and Banana Pudding!) are laughing their asses off.
They are watching kittens playing patty cake.
I been trying to avoid the politics, my brain can only stand so much stupidity before I run screaming into the night.
First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who wrote such cool, unique, and moving tributes to James/Kim's memories, inspired by February's prompt. I couldn't read them right away because IRL stuff got busy and then I got a really bad flu that I'm still recovering from (and Julien is, too). But I read them just now and they were a joy to discover, and moved me greatly and from the comments, I know so many other OSers felt the same. Thanks again and bravo!
