Why Black People Should be Mad as Hell: American Capitalism and Reparations

Whether you've seen the movie "Twelve Years a Slave" or not, the information linked here should be of acute interest and importance to anyone who gives a damn about the current state of race relations in America:

Easter & the new gay Jesus

by Tommi Avicolli Mecca

“We have no need of a god, each of us is his own.”

Those words were sung in the mid-60s by a 16-year-old folksinger whose debut album shocked the nation with a song (“Society’s Child”) about interracial love. If you guessed Janis Ian, you’re right.

What most people probably don’t remember is her song “New Christ Cardiac Hero,” also on the same Lp, a declaration that her generation and mine were god-free, carefree and, as Sartre had said,…

Our Friends No Longer Trust Us, and Our Enemies Don't Fear Us.

Our Friends No Longer Trust Us, and Our Enemies Don't Fear Us.

This is a post script to yesterday's post.

These are some of new Rightwing talking points.  The claim is that Obama’s lack of a specific policy is the problem (rather than our effort to tip the Middle East one way or the other).

Of course it is absurd.  Our policies have failed so utterly that what we…

Oh wow. The Gov stepped in the woopie pie that the brilliant minds in the state legislature left lying in a pile on the capitol rotunda floor.  His shoe is thoroughly soiled.  It is going to take a month of Sundays to scrape it all off.…

Time For War

Yes, it is time for folks in the Middle East to kill each other.  But we need to stay out of this one.

War is as old as man, and wars happen for a variety of reasons.  Wars can be as small as tribal skirmishes amongst Stone Age warriors.  When really big wars erupt, it is a sign that the old power structures no longer work.  Sadly, the old powers don’t tend to recognize that they must leave the table, so they fight and in the end are obliterate.

To repeat, war is not new. …

When, Oh When?

When, oh when, will you white people put a stop to this shit?

Two nights ago, in Atlantic City, I was pulled over by police while driving a friend's 1994 Chrysler LeBaron....For absolutely no reason whatsoever!!!

After checking my driver's license, the registration and insurance documents, the… Continue

White House Imposed Decline of America

An American president who makes excuses for American exceptionalism acting as though it does not exist, raises an eyebrow. Historically it makes little sense. America's impact upon the world has been positive, yet we see an ominous force leveled against our nation. That ominous force is an…

Obama White House Imposing More EPA Insanity

Imagine washing you car on your driveway and being served a fine for $100,000 dollars or worse being arrested! Imagine wanting to simply paint your house and having to get a federal environmental permit while paying a hefty fee for it as well. Imagine being denied the right to thin brush and mow down…

Don't Take Democracy for Granted

Does America have the example of Honduras in its future?

In late 2008, the Honduran military deposed left-wing President Manuel Zelaya.  This was not your typical Banana Republic coup since the cause was not the vaunting ambition of some strutting, swagger-stick brandishing general but gridlock between an immovable president of one party…

christian hate marches on

by Tommi Avicolli Mecca

For those who thought Christianity had joined the 21st Century or at least the 20th, think again. The Inquisition, pogroms and witch burnings may be centuries in the past, but the hatred that sparked those atrocities is alive and well in the hearts of those who believe in the dead carpenter’s son who supposedly walked on water after turning it into wine, or something like that. Consider recent news stories.

One of the premiere Catholic churches…

The Cuban Renegade - 2 - Sun on the Rocks

When precious metals agent Cubandor and teleoperator Clarity Nice reach the northern island of Cayo Coco in Cuba, a group of revolutionary Cuban security guards working for colonel Swarez da Silva, men known as Marrulleros, arrest them as counter-revolutionary elements, and send them to a high profile prison, in the name of a new revolution which the colonel hopes, will…
