"Sweet poesy is not the poet's reward!"

Tis fitting that I should append as comet's tail to fleeting life ,

to unmask as in denoument, the mystery behind my veil.

Most 'nogamous of all my peers my life's played out in singlet form.

The dalliance fine, to stick I fear; no true love's fate, that was my doom.

As callow boy my only went, was find fair wife and breed her well.

But…

Ode To A Ginger

It was the eyes that got me, those eyes,

undecided between green or brown,

the transition betwixt and between

a cosmic riot -

galactic nebulae swirls

like pictures from Hubble,

iridescence that caught the light,

played with it like a lazy cat

then loosed upon…

Takes my hand, pulls me closer

Envelops me in his arms

Kisses so delicious

Tasting his tongue

He licks me

Suckles my…

Nursery of Winds

In the glistening of Spring

young winds are born,

hatchling mouth gaping

for frozen bits of thermal carrion,

gleaning what nourishment they can

from the keening of last winter’s gales.

Summertime zephyrs are on their own,

casting themselves in currents of warmth,

deciding from moment to moment

whether they will caress or sting.

They move as they must

for only those most fit

may sail forward into Fall.

Late autumn gales dance in…

"Where Spanish Moss Prevails!"

to be read aloud....

A child was born and grew to stand,

in sand-spurred sand, and watched the sails;

of ships from shores of foreign lands-

he grew to wend through tortured trails

his way to those exotic strands,

advising all who might inquire

the origin of this wand'ring male;…

December Scene

December Scene

Snow upon a homeless soul

stooped inside a doorway

hiding from the cutting wind

weary from hard times again,

suffering a poor man’s pain,

wondering why rich men reign,

holding on that God will come

and bless his family,

somewhere in a shelter

in this large city.

He regains his feet to move

somewhere down the street…

Musical Questions

If we begin the music of love making
Will the language we share be harmonic?
Who arranges the pulse of the piece?
Decides which beats are accented
Which beats are not?
Will they…

iPoetry and Codeine

In The December Grey

after Satan laughs

it begins

there will be no Vicodin today

In the parking lot a shadowy figure mumbled a kind of

hello. At first I thought him an hallucination, but with the

sun breaking through the bleakness and codeine deprivation

vice-gripping my brain, I recognized Gary's black onyx…

"The epic of Enkidu!"

artist unknown

poem © Fred Hallman 2012

(to be read aloud)

I am Enkidu not Gilgamesh -  a native libertarian I am!

While sampling Shamat's pulchritude,

I nibbled round her baited hook,

then swam away as free fish do.

So 'scaped from Babylon I am,

nay schooled nor drooled on her spavined teat.…

A Winter Street

A Winter Street

Upon a winter street one day

I saw the empty pockets

on poor man’s face.

Compelled, I asked his business

although ‘twas not my place.

He replied his year was hard;

he lost his job, lost his house

and then he lost his way.

I tried to hand him twenty

and he told me of his Grace;

a daughter ill at only four

as tears…

Reveal

Reveal yourself to me,

I yearn to know more.

Touch me intimately

from across a crowded room

with nothing but your eyes.

Show me the power of your desire.

Tell me how I might grasp your soul

and pull, so sweetly.

Lay with me, teach me to fly,

hold me within your grasp, that I might be free.

Give me a moment of your life

that I might know the infinite.

From where I lie, I see

the landscape of your body

stretching out before…

Moving Forward

Moving Forward

We wander the edge of uncertainty

hoping to find the path,

looking for guidance as we move

toward the unknown each day;

never the same encounters,

never expected results,

never the best scenario

as we all find our way.

Fog brings an unclear future

as we grope through the mist;

each step a new adventure

somehow not on…

Frosty Mississippi

Frosty Mississippi

Mittens on the mice this morning
as they dart about
looking for a breakfast meal
underneath the feeder
where the birds have spilled some seed
and the advantageous treats
will fill their early need.
