I have this tendency to disappear sometimes. These past few months, a lot's been going on and it seems I did just that. I can't believe I forgot to post for November, and I can't apologize enough.
For this month, well, it's the holidays, cold weather, family, food, presents, excitement, maybe some stress are in the air. Let's take inspiration from all that, and write a story (or two, or three, or four) about it (or them).
Here are some prompts, if you'd like:
Other than the usual racked up birthday cakes with the Fire Department on your Speed Dial, seeing an old couple holding hands or checking if you're in the Obituaries...…Continue
I just watched Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. I've seen it before, but it hit me differently this time. I don't why, but I started thinking about our elections and how much our political parties are like two large tribes that have very different points of view. Then there is another tribe that both of…
When Open Salon started messing with how they were doing things I slowly quit writing and reading. It also coincided with a change in what I was doing for a living. I have been teaching for the last 5 years. The first four I was teaching special education in High School. Then this year I moved to teaching English in a middle…Continue
I used to write on Open Salon, but I have been away for a while because teaching and other things made my life too busy to contribute. I was surprised to find out it had disappeared and read somewhere that people may have migrated to Our Salon. I am glad there is still a place to go for the expression of free thought no matter what side of the fence you hail from. It is awesome to be able to learn from others.
I am looking forward to writing this summer.
I went by Sage…Continue
Well, first let me say - my young family & I lived in Europe 3 years in the 70's - so it wasn't like a one-timey-ruined-our-vacation vibe - this was just one of many.
That said - the very first thing that came into my…Continue
Dicky Neely's got some serious competition in London. Illma Gore’s painting Make America Great Again, on display at Maddox Gallery in London now with a £1million price tag, depicts the Republican presidential candidate with…Continue
Once more I am chagrined to see that ten people have been sucked into the temptation to comment on the psychopathic Texan's recent post. Not sure what I'm trying to do here, but I'll try again:…Continue
While there are few things less constructive than pondering the “what ifs” of life, I do it frequently. Our lives are filled with “what if” moments when we wonder how our lives might have been different if we’d done or said something other than what we did do/say.…Continue

Jon Wolfman’s Open Call for our recollections of the veterans we’ve encountered in our lives sends me in two directions: family and friends and strangers. First of all I grew up on John Wayne and Gregory Peck movies about World War II and I played army from the age of six on. I was supposed to be the first kid in our family to graduate from college and my five year plan in high school was to graduate from the Air Force Academy, fly combat missions in Vietnam, go into the test pilots…Continue
Jon Wolfman’s Open Call for our recollections of the veterans we’ve encountered in our lives comes to me at a time of coincidence. I am two weeks into living in motels in Texas for the sole purpose to begin the process of trying to determine what, if any, services the Veteran’s Administration may be able to provide for my older brother at the end of his life.
My big brother Bill never served in Vietnam. He enlisted in 1962 and served in Germany. The closest he came to combat was…Continue
This is a slightly modified and updated version of a post from "Other" Salon. I don't remember whether many people read or commented on this piece, but it concerns a topic I'm interested in and I hope you like it. In the original post I included the Civil Rights Movement as a Populist Uprising which seemed to have offended some people. So, I took that section out.
President Barack Obama has been called a number of things; socialist, communist, fascist,…Continue
