THE RED FLAG DECLARES: TEACHING OLD DOGS NEW TRICKS IS A BITCH

Once you master the download and save your blog .HTML everything will be jake!  But getting Jake to cooperate is a bitch.  My friend continues to advise me and since I feel we are a writing family, I want to pass his advice on.  Like Zuckerberg says, "Do no harm."…

LAST WORDS ABOUT BINDLESNITCH

No. BindleSnitch is not going away but I may be.

I feel like an invader on Our Salon. I never did like the design that much but right now we have a unique opportunity to build a new site that will operating as much as the older ones did as I can make it but I am afraid of losing the connections that I have with this group of people.

You are a special group of people because you are very knowledgeable about what goes into one of these websites and some really good ideas about…

Groups Are Not Working - but we are working on it.

This process is giving me a different perspective on the structure of my website by comparing Lorianne's design to mine. Give me a little time to get things right. I didn't anticipate having to do this with people looking over my shoulders.

BindleSnitch Update

We are making progress.

We were made aware that we were running on an old version of php. Updating to the current version has solved a number of problems...and given us a major speed increase.

We have decided to do away with the minimum word requirement for two reasons: it didn't really make sense when we thought it out again because of the numbers of valuable posts that would never make the  mimumum word count....and because the plugin we were using to impose that…

Remembering the OS dead: An update

Hi guys,

A few days ago, I posted here about what to do about those (all too many) OSers who have passed and whose work may now disappear forever from the internet, with the shutting down of Our.

I got some wonderful comments on that post, both kind messages addressed to me, and profound thoughts regarding what to do about our OS dead.

Ultimately, here is what I've decided, personally:

Since I was closest to these two dearly departed, I'm going to do sites for…

BindleSnitch Update

We are having problems with the site right now. We think our service provider is having issues but we are looking into it.

The GOOD NEWS is that I figured out a way to customize the Your Salon page so that you don't have to worry abouut the minimum word requirement...or the featured image but I have wait until the site becomes accessible again for me to install this option.

Here's how it works.

I will install a "sticky" post called Open Call. This post will always…

About BindleSnitch

Ron Powell asked me to post this to everyone.

When I heard that Lorianne was shutting down Our Salon, I was in the final stages of developing Bindlesnitch.com. Hearing that Open Salon people were being evicted again led me to propose that youj might consider joining BindleSnitch.com as early adopters.

BindleSnitch was designed from the ground up to be a cooperatively owned and operated website. The net profits from advertising revenues (after itemized operating expenses…

What about our dead?

Hi guys,

It's been a while since I've posted here. Life has taken me in some different directions, but I was always comforted to know that Our Salon was there, and that I could go back and lurk or even one day maybe chime in. I was shocked to get the message that this place is shutting down - but I understand. I see lots of people thanking Lorianne and I want to do that, too.

Thanks, Lorianne, for all of your hard work, and for giving us a refuge, a place to make our own, and a…

more about bindlesnitch

We had some problems today with the login system. They have been corrected with a jury-rig but that will require some more work.

However, what I wanted to point out to you all is that BindleSnitch has two separate systems. For comments and group discussions, I recommend that you use the profile system. Once you are signed up, just go to MY PROFILE on the MEMBERS menu and you will be into a system that functions very much like facebook and also quite like Our…

Commentaire archivé sous Open Call Pence Post. Ne devrait pas dactylographié poteau de clôture

Yes it is certainly is a pleasure to meet you again Stahi Stahi. The rocky several month aberrant behavior of OS has led to a great schism (GS) with unpredictable consequence. I see that many of our contemporaries have all but quit posting or have repositioned over at Our Salon, as you may know. The GS (through a positive lens) certainly has been a pebble in my boot--let me tell you! My apprehension of starting up elsewhere is that I found no surety of work preservation. One…

In the Wake of Lorianne's Announcement: The Question

Should we attempt to migrate to another platform as a community, or should we simply say our good-byes, disband, move on, and seek new digs as soloists?
