My recent absence due to hospitalization bleh, bleh, bleh!

Okay this is where I've been the last few weeks and  more or less what I've been up to and through for that matter.Image result for hospitalization   About a month ago I began feeling listless, had no appetite, and was sleeping about 2 hours of every day.

I got very weak after a couple of weeks of this and you have to understand that my daily routine includes jacking myself into the air with a sling and chain hoist upon arising and after pulling myself down the hall via a monorail on the ceiling, dropping…

Fantastic Week for Movie Trailers

What an excellent few weeks for geeky sneak previews of upcoming movies! It's a good time to be a fan of superheroes, dinosaurs, science fiction, action/adventure, and anything else that would make the 12-year-old in all of us cheer.  Here are some of the trailers that debuted recently, making us count the days…

Daredevil Triumphant

The Man Without Fear, otherwise known as the comic book superhero Daredevil, seems to finally be earning some respect. The new Netflix series has generated mostly good reviews and, based on the first few episodes I've seen, has done justice (pun intended) to the blind attorney by day / masked…

TV Shows They Should Revive

We are in the midst of a nostalgia trend, ladies and gentlemen.  I'm not just talking about reboots and remakes of old television favorites (although I'm still excited about The Twilight Zone coming back yet again); we're seeing the continuation of beloved series with the original cast returning to…

Joni Mitchell, Morgellon's syndrome and the Twilght of Stars

Hejira

When asked, if reincarnation is real, what I wanted to come back as, I've always joked Joni Mitchell.  Joni has been one of the stars in my firmament since the days of "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Clouds".  As Joni moved from her sort of folk-rock beginning, the girl from the Bay of Fundy has moved into…

Feeling Old During the Nostalgia Trend

I've enjoyed all the revivals of entertainment from my younger days, but then I started feeling ancient.  It will be wonderful to see new episodes of Twin Peaks and The X-Files, but I will also realize that it's been decades since I first saw the originals. I'm thrilled to see Van…

Easter & the new gay Jesus

by Tommi Avicolli Mecca

“We have no need of a god, each of us is his own.”

Those words were sung in the mid-60s by a 16-year-old folksinger whose debut album shocked the nation with a song (“Society’s Child”) about interracial love. If you guessed Janis Ian, you’re right.

What most people probably don’t remember is her song “New Christ Cardiac Hero,” also on the same Lp, a declaration that her generation and mine were god-free, carefree and, as Sartre had said,…

You Don't Have To Live Like A Refugee

As a lot of you probably did, I got an e-mail last week from Open Salon saying they were closing the doors.  I wasn't really sure how I felt about that; I was having a good time chronicling the events in my neighborhood, and apparently more than one person liked reading them.

But I had no idea where to go from there.  I remembered several people talking about OurSalon, and LorianneZ, so I contacted her to see if bringing The Crimson Jesus Chronicles here was do-able.  She not only…
