The Movie JOY and a Peanut Parfait

I have ended the year with some good things and the movie JOY is one of them.  Jennifer Lawrence is magnificent as Joy, the lady who invented the self wringing mop.   Absolutely blew me away and is such an important real life story to tell.   Great cast!!!

I also ended the year with a Peanut…

Woman Too Old To List Age on Facebook

Woman Too Old To List Age on Facebook:  A 104-year-old woman is complaining to Facebook that she couldn’t post her real age because the birthdate drop-down menu only goes back as far as 1910.  Why bother complaining?  Hell, by the time she finishes scrolling down to her year, she’ll be dead anyway. …

2015 and moving .. trucking if you will .. forward . . .

Hello and happy new year. Yes, egads and holy fuck, another year past. For whatever reason, maybe our natural human obsession with time and it's passage, we tend to reflect collectively on this day and dream of better tomorrows. But from where I sit kittens, there's fat chance of the future being more bright.

Does it seem to you, like me, that each year passes quicker than the last? Hell, each day even. This day marks the third holiday season spent at this physical address, living…

Canadian Imperialism

I have supported the idea of Quebec separatism for quite a while. My reasoning is simple: if the Maritime provinces are geographically cut off from the rest of their country and they have a population to their West that has just rejected them and doesn't want to speak their language, their friendliest neighbors will be those to the South. Open talks to add the Maritimes into the US. We've had our eye on Canada for a couple of centuries, so this would go through Congress pretty… Continue

Rich White Trash

Rich White Trash

I thought the category had reached its zenith with Paris Hilton and the Kardashians, but I was wrong. At the moment, the Crown of Crude must surely go to the Family Couch. At the moment, Killer Kid is dying his hair in Puerto Vallarta, Mumsie is winging her way back to California, hopefully at her own expense, and Papa Bear is god knows where.

It would be difficult to imagine a worse case of disciplinary failure. Deciding that the steroidal…

The Taxidermist

He had been a hunter all of his life,

and so he learned how to skin animals,

and then how to stuff them.  He got good

at it, and word of his skill spread.

Men who had shot bucks and foxes

sought him out.  He made a few bucks

that way, enough to put himself through

school and get his teaching certificate.

When he reported for work the first week

to teach freshman biology, he got off on

the right foot with the kids; firm,…

this is our new year concern, dude

i fear that every year since i joined open, which was in september 2008, i fear that every single year i have said, "this was the worst year of my life.  i pray next year is a good one."

2015 really was, no contest and hands down, the worst year of my life, and if there is a worse one, i dont think i will hang around after that.  nodding.  yeah.

i'm 50 now.  guess i was only 42 when i joined open.  42.  my son was, therefore, pardon me while i take a long time to figure this…

More on Tamir Rice. Yes .... more.

I will preface the rest of my post by adding that I have had a gun held to my head – in a robbery, actually three robberies at Kentucky Fried Chicken stores in the Dayton Ohio area over 30 years ago.  So, just like a cop,  I do know what it is like to be confronted with a gun.  You need to stay calm and need to think.  One time my hands were shaking as I opened the floor safe. Still one needs to stay calm.

I also want to add that I have written letters for insurance companies (I have…

Out with the Old

That's a strange phrase isn't it?

Out with the old, in with the new.

We look forward, not knowing anything about what is ahead. We pretend it will be better than what we're leaving behind.

That old stuff wasn't all that good was it? The new stuff is going to be better.

Lots of that…

New Beginnings and understanding the falsities of the past....

He demands another blog entry due to no lack of striving forward to attain that ever needed show he has going on.  The continual intrusion that isn't.  So here it is all ready and such as if there was anything new to put...... huh, I went and played guitar in my living room and danced on the corner.....

The first day exercising with the Lawrence Bike Club with the Javorek crowd and training program went splendid.  I couldn't believe how fit the people there were.   I was so…

Understanding Republicans

Today I talked to the billing lady at my Doc's office.  It was my first visit with him and I was after a simple visit that Medicare says I get for free every year.  He has only been taking Medicare patients for a few months and the bill had a $115 dollar charge on my "free" visit.

Upfaked Out of My Love Shoes

It was a New Year’s Eve in the ’90′s

and I was at loose ends.

I decided to skip the midnight show

and go to a party with friends.

After the obligatory dance with my hostess to her then-favorite popular song

(If memory serves correctly, it was Lionel Ritchie’s “All Night Long”),

I scanned the room for possibilities and was struck by a frame that loomed ahead of me.

A dirty-blonde woman in a little black dress,

her face a picture of…

The Terrorist Org New Leadership Emergency Questionnaire

Now that Some Major Strategic Town in Some Country has been wrested from ISIS, at least temporarily, I thought to re-publish this, just in case ISIS may have need of it in furure.

This was originally published at www.aworldofprogress.com hard upon Osama bin-Laden's death.
