The Role of Media in a Democracy, Part 2: Morning Joe's Discussion on Trump's Recent Attack on the Media

Although I would disagree with some aspects of this conversation,  it is very much on point and on message. Quite consistent with the intent and purpose of the post:

Question for Discussion at an Upcoming Event

A discussion group to which we sometimes add our opinions has this question for the upcoming meeting:

"High-profile allegations of sexual predation: witch hunt or a moral awakening?"

What think ye?

Trump Calls Elizabeth Warren Pocahontas at Event Honoring Navajos

Trump Calls Elizabeth Warren Pocahontas at Event Honoring Navajos:  Even while at a White House ceremony intended to honor the World War II Navajo code talkers, Trump found he couldn’t resist making a derogatory comment about his adversary Sen. Elizabeth Warren, referring to her once again as “Pocahontas.”  No surprise there - I mean this is a guy who politicized a speech he made to the damn Boy Scouts.  Kind of makes you wonder he’ll do next?  Throw paper…

When my husband woke up sick on the morning of Thanksgiving this year, the preparatory halt was immediate. I felt as if I, the chef, were hanging mid-air by invisible strings, all of a sudden, while the marathon prep of the feast maker and host…

The Myth of Racism by Police in America

Few people aside from military personnel or first responders could imagine the day to day possibility of facing death as a constant occupational hazard, but for our police in America that possibility has been enhanced thanks to…

Uranium One Deal in Lengthy but Informative Detail Why the Clinton's Are Guilty!

It is one thing to enrich yourself at the cost of taxpayers while in office which is bad enough, but to endanger your fellow countrymen in the hands of a foreign government is even more grotesque! The Clintons and the Obama administration reached that plateau!…

It's a Monday morning in the neighborhood: The TreifBaloney Tales (in no particular order)

Image result for butt hurt

Seems like someone is experiencing some severe butthurt this morning.

It apparently is so bad that they feel the need to write another in a long series of butthurt "hit piece" posts and then shutting off comments to most/all people (which is particularly chicken shit, in this case.) who would call "them" out on it.…

Weeds and Thanksgiving Weekend

This has been an interesting weekend, and I've managed to spend it with a whole coterie of people without ever seeing anyone in real life. Showtime, which I am currently getting for free, is showing Weeds

Sociopolitical Realities That Never Seem To Change

In view of the greatest disinformation campaign ever perpetrated against the American people on such a wide scale by the US media befitting of any CIA propaganda program ever unleashed against a foreign government are the false talking points of the Democrats parroted by the US mainstream media. In 2016 they lost the bid for the presidency due to their stifling leftist coopted policies that doomed the US to 8…

The Role of Media in a Democracy

The media has shown itself to be woefully inadequate re its constitutionally protected role as watchdog and reporters of abuses of  authority and power, malfeasance re fiduciary respoonsiblities and obligations, and betrayals of the public's trust. .

In a word, the performance of the media to date has been 'shameful'.

A quick music lesson I gave on Thanksgiving about being a multi-instrumentalist

I was at my mother's for Thanksgiving. My sister is always there with her boyfriend, kids, and dog, and my mother's husband's daughter comes with her four sons, in their twenties and maybe early thirties now, and her husband. I gave the lesson in question to one of the sons (and a different one later to the oldest son - things just worked out that way).

I play a lot of instruments. Not all of them well by any stretch of the imagination, but I've played at least ten instruments in… Continue

Trump Claims He Pulled Out of Time’s Person of the Year

Trump Claims He Pulled Out of Time’s Person of the Year:  President Trump is claiming that Time magazine was contemplating naming him the “Person of the Year” for a second year in a row, but he pulled out of the running because he didn't want to participate in their interview and photo shoot.  OK, so Donald Trump pulled out of Time’s “Person of the Year!”  Frankly, I think we’d all be a lot better off had his father - Fred Trump - pulled out…

Come to the Dance

My wife and I just received a letter concerning an upcoming dance at my daughter's high school from her principal. Her high school is a suburban school, the most academically rigorous in the area (and they fund education in New York State); the school district includes the local university.

This just sounds so welcoming. Having fun…

Song of Satan

Several times previously, I've mentioned an intelligent evangelical friend, who proudly announced he voted for Trump because he thought he might be the Anti-Christ. Naturally, I was appalled by that announcement; but upon further review, I'm not so sure my friend wasn't right. In any event, that possibility inspired me to write this:

Song of…

Black Friday, Holy Day for the Grinch

Black Friday has come and gone.  Or has it?  Retailers want to ride the wave of consumer buying making it Black Weekend.

In another lifetime my wife worked in retail.  Starting as a salesperson (they were salesgirls then) she became an area manager and then assistant store manager in line to become a store manager.  She wanted to be a buyer.

Managers were at the store all of the time; weekdays, weekends, holidays.  Salary divided by hours looked like minimum wage.

Buyers…

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos Net Worth Now More Than $100 Billion

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos Net Worth Now More Than $100 Billion:  Amazon founder and chief executive Jeffrey P. Bezos saw his net worth climb above $100 billion as shares in his online retail giant surged on optimism over holiday sales.  Meanwhile, the rest of us are trying to save 15% or more by switching to Geico for car insurance.  I guess this only goes to show that - you can have all the money in the world, but it still doesn’t buy you hair.…
