lovely day: crafts/coloring for adults (yes, i know...) with my 2 good friends here in subsidized senior heaven & shopping with CC at fred meyer/kroger -- our other homw away from home

okay, now, please try not to be jealous of my exciting life. not everyone can handle this kind of breakneck pace. it takes hard work and discipline and dedication and a lot of downtime to recoup. olympic level tv watching and feline and canine management -- the weekly interspecies family meetings alone could break a lesser homo sapiens. there are just so many times you can hear your critters tell you that you have an Attitude Problem before you begin to break down. and then there is the…

Officials Say Trump Declining Intelligence Briefings

Officials Say Trump Declining Intelligence Briefings: Some in the intelligence community are privately expressing concern over the fact that President-elect Donald Trump has been turning away intelligence briefers since his election win, noting that he has only received two classified intelligence briefings since his surprise election victory. That shouldn’t be a problem, because if you remember, he told Billy Bush he’s pretty good at quickly “grabbing hold…

And Jonathan Wolfman Said: "Some see clear, present, excruciatingly detailed danger in the vote. They are not wrong."

Yet, when I made this statement re the nature and extent of the effect of the outcome, some here insisted that my reaction and response was a bit of a stretch.

I was overreacting.

The first element or component of good counseling is…

Thanksgiving - Remembering why We Observe the Ritual

The origins of the ritual: In the USA the holiday began as a harvest festival. Thanksgiving has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789, after a proclamation by George Washington.

It has much less to do with the mythic celebration of Native Americans and the Pilgrims of the Plymouth Colony and much more…

Trump Will/Should Not Nominate Romney as SofS

It’s difficult to focus on specific issues whilst in the glow of celebrating the country’s release from the collectivist jaws of the Clintons and Barack Obama, but let’s force ourselves.

Through the floodgates of liberation, many candidates have suddenly been released from the collectivist closet. Prominently among them are candidates for Secretary of State.

For some reason, Mitt Romney is among them, and, incredibly, a…

grato per la bella vita

or maybe la vida loca.  who's to say.

I love MA.  it's cold as fuck here but I love it anyway.  it's very fun, lots to do and unlike CT.  in MA the majority of people I see are younger than I am.  I LIKE that a lot.  they dress great.  CT is where most of america's yankee seniors are pickled and stockpiled.   they drink, they drive, get the hell out of their way asshat youngun.

today is a really good day. the house is clean, looks good, comfy and cozy (sofa still isn't here…

Day One of Blissful Solitude

It has taken me a few years, but I am learning to love holidays. Or rather, "The Holidays" as we euphemistically call the last 6 weeks of the calendar year. I used to like them as a kid even though they involved lots of work. Mom did the cooking but my sisters and I did the cleaning. One of us washed and one of us dried. The other one got the day off. But the food was good and the TV shows helped with the…

On Schools Offering Post-Election Counseling

I've written several pieces, spoken on air, about university syllabi "trigger-warnings" and reading list "opt-outs", how they threaten the Liberal Arts core project. At the same time, I applaud UNLV's offer to provide post-election group counseling and other support to those of its students who believe they/their families are now jeopardized. Far from striking at the Liberal Arts Idea, UNLV's move…

I Love it When a Woman Snores

I love it when a woman snores,

I rate it higher than s’mores,

or Hydrox  cookies, chicken (fried);

It means, I think, she’s satisfied.

That gentle sound recalls to mind

A buzzsaw whizzing through plank  pine.

A lower pitch, the basso sort,

Sounds like a shrimp boat leaving port.

Then there’s the “schnuck” noise that escapes

from her mouth left all  agape.

I’ll leave off there, don’t want to…

Study Finds Fewer U.S. Parents Spanking Their Kids

Study Finds Fewer U.S. Parents Spanking Their Kids:  A new U.S. study suggests that spanking and hitting children to discipline them has become much less common in recent decades as more parents choose non-physical approaches such as “time-outs” instead.  Of course the complete opposite is true for the Cleveland Browns’ defense, who could use a lot more hitting and substantially less time-outs.…

a swastika on a mirror, a meeting shown on tv where people gave the nazi salute, but also visiting the groomer & huge great dane puppy & a brave man being very kind to me.

i was so afraid of this but i never dreamed that it would start so soon or that it would happen in my neighborhood. i was so naive. i thought that because it's an affluent area but also has many apartments complexes where students live. i was comforting myself that this is a safe place. i was a fool.

Kosher, i need to read the post of a post that you posted about this country not being a safe haven for our people anymore. i am so scared to read it because it is already obvious to me…

So Much Going On!

No prosecution of Hillary.  No mercy for the press.  No denial of the White Nationalists.  No denial of his million dollar investment in the company building the pipeline through Native Sacred lands....What a Thanksgiving!

If you are interested in preserving ACA (Obamacare)

House Speaker Paul Ryan is conducting a phone poll on ACA. It is obvious from the prompts that he is hoping to find overwhelming opposition to it. However, that doesn't have to be the case.

The phone number is (202) 225-0600. The first prompt asks for you to punch in a number to determine what issue you wish to address. #2 is ACA; you don't have to wait out the message. Then you'll hear a recording about Ryan's proposal to get rid of portions of the ACA, HR-3762. After that, you get… Continue

A Black Inspiration (Not Obama)

Nellie Lutcher—My Introduction to the Wonders of Black Culture

I was a teenager before I realized that blacks existed.

Without my knowing, blacks had been bussed to schools far from the ones I attended through high school.

But somewhere along the line, I heard, in my culturally liberal home environment, the recordings of Nellie Lutcher, and that launched me along a cultural path which has immeasurably enriched my life.

Looking back, way back, I have a clearer view of what…

Two Rifles, One Window

I was able to catch up on work enough to leave town and work from a lap top for a few days. Today I return to the office and clients.

I have not seen a paper, listened to a radio or watched TV news since last week. My e-mail, full of rage on the part of friends is enough.

Later at the end of the day I am going to start reading a book; "A Cruel and Shocking Act: The Secret History of the Kennedy Assassination". The reviews have been good. I bought…

November 22nd, 2016 - Camelot Forgotten and JFK

Nobelesse oblige…:  Today is the 53nd anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.  I searched Google to see how it is being remembered in 2016 and 90% of what I found were books and stories about speculation on various conspiracies.  There's almost nothing about the legendary man who became the first US President who was born in the 20th Century.  He was also the first Catholic to hold that office which was a big deal on the spectrum of prejudice…
