adam lanza's motivations part III

when lanza massacred kids on newtown, ct. several years ago i blogged instantly- not waiting for reports or corroboration. to me it was clear what lanza was motivated by. killing his mother in bed 1st is always key to the shooter's grievances. he was a typical parent killer.

his slaughter or 7 year olds also made clear his motivations.…

Chocolate Marble Coconut Pecan Banana Bread

Do you have a couple of homely speckled bananas crowding your fruit bowl?  Time to make banana bread!  But while the same old same old banana bread is a nice comforting reminder of childhood, I thought it would be fun to pimp it up a little.  So I…

Actors Were Warned Senior Bush Gets Pretty Handsy

Actors Were Warned Senior Bush Gets Pretty Handsy:  Following actress Heather Lind’s groping revelation, another woman came forward to claim she was also groped by former President George H.W. Bush, prompting “Hunchback of Notre Dame” cast members to divulge that actors were actually warned beforehand that the former president could get “handsy.”  Handsy?  I’ll say!  Hell, its beginning to sound like George H.W. Bush is actually short for “George Hands Wander…

Last Light

A few weeks ago, the BLP and I took a short trip to the Washington Coast. You may have seen my mention of it in my last post, called September At the Beach.  If you don't want to go see the post here is what I said:

(In October we went to Long Beach and Cape Disappointment (Southwest corner of Washington State) for a second Fall beach trip. I took over a hundred photographs.…

Ain't That A Shame

Antoine Dominique Domino Jr. has moved on to provide the heavens with a stroll and shuffle beat.

Known as Fats Domino, his sound out of New Orleans was the inspiration to far too many musicians to name. I remember being about 6 years old, spinning my brother's 45's and knowing this was so different as to defy description.

Always a charmer and a pleasant man, he was feared to have died in Katrina. He lived through it and the devastation to the 9th Ward, but his…

i usta teach...

A student-centered classroom is premised by the understanding that student needs come first.   However, the concept of a student-centered classroom needs to be implemented by a principled, experienced teacher with a vision informed by research and best practices.  According to Best Friends, Worst Enemies: Understanding the Social Lives of Children by Thompson, Grace and Cohen, student/children need three things: “RECOGNITION, CONNECTION & POWER.”   …

All of my Knowledge of Black Holes Seems to be at the Center of One.

I have a screen saver that is a series of photos of black holes.  As the images changed I noticed that some appear to be taken en face and were round, and others were taken from an angle and appeared oval.  I wondered what they look like from the other side.  If there is something really capable of pulling everything into it where does the “stuff” – matter and energy – go.  If a black hole is like a funnel we should see the other end of the funnel.

I have a deep interest in some…

Scientists Create Virtual Human Brain Cells

Scientists Create Virtual Human Brain Cells:  Scientists in Seattle have created three-dimensional computer reconstructions of living human brain cells by studying tissue that is usually discarded during surgery, capturing not only the shape and anatomy of living cells, but also the electrical signals they produce.  During a recent press conference, Dr Frankenstein and his staff said it was great to be working in cosmopolitan Seattle as opposed to the Swiss…
