BLUE-EYED PUPPIES! And brown-eyed. And a couple with one of each...

My friend/handyman/neighbor Frank had a litter of puppies recently.  Didn't mean to.  A couple of his dogs got cozy.  He already had 20 or so dogs and he does dog-racing in the winter.  Seems like as lot of trouble and dogs for three short races in the winter, one of which was cancelled this past year.  But he likes dogs, and people leave their dogs with him, and he had a couple of birth-control failures in the past.  Result - 20-some dogs.…

Your Love Life

There is nothing more important to a human being than his or her love life.  Without love, there would be little or no sexual reproduction and whole species–or even families–could become extinct!…

Salinger (2013) -- movie review

While viewing the trailer for Salinger, I was 99.9% certain that I'd hate the film--not only was it being over-hyped as the "movie event of the year" but the film was being distributed by The Weinstein Company. (Owner/founder Harvey Weinstein has a long and storied history of promotional…

Who makes money if the US Gov't defaults on its bills?

posted both places as usual

If the US Gov't has to pay higher interest rates, it is of course banks who profit enormously from this. We know who is pushing default in Congress, but have we considered why? Where do most bank campaign contributions go?

BREAKTHROUGH: New Historical Revelations from Iran Now that it Has Confirmed The Holocaust

Now that the Iranian government has decided, and only a little equivocally, that the Holocaust (the attempted destruction of European Jewry for those of you without the D-FNN (Disney-Farsi News Network) "not a myth", it may be helpful to tap into that government's BS-DNA (Belated Somewhat Doubtful News Agency) archives.
I have been given exclusive Western access to the BS-DNA archives. I believe it will give…

Intro to Rock Poetry 101

It was one of those fashionable academic parties where emulation–in the form of whom, among the assembled group, possessed the most extensive knowledge of classic rock lyrics, and whose tastes in the matter were most discerning–was in the air.  The year was 2073 and the Oxford Anthology of Rock Lyrics had just appeared on our reading tablets, to be eagerly consumed by those of us whose first love was the classics!

Sometimes a cheeseburger is just a…

Art Tatum: God is in the House

Jazz piano has had, over the course of its history, enough royalty to stock a coronation:  Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington; William “Count” Basie; and Nathaniel Adams “King” Cole.  But even these three would concur in the judgment of Fats Waller, a commoner but no slouch himself, that above them all was a deity–Art Tatum (1909-1956).…

Police behaving badly

Recently, a minor family emergency led to the presence  of a Minneapolis police officer in my son’s fro nt porch. Boy asked me to take their little dog outside before the cop arrived, expressing concern that she would carry on as she tends to and, “I don’t want her shot.”  I questioned and he reminded me of the all too…

Where the hell have you been?!

When you’ve lived in and driven any area of the country for more than 30 years, you begin to feel like you know your way around, maybe even get a bit cavalier about it. I know I was very guilty of this as I headed out to enjoy a friend’s wedding one fine summer day about 12…
