DoodoodoodooDoot doot doot dooDoodoodoot

I sang that tonight.

A few months ago, my wife said she wanted to go to a concert and told me what day tickets went on sale. I looked it up, they went on sale at noon. At 11:59 AM, I sat at my computer, ticket site web address in my window, watching my second hand sweep toward twelve. The instant after it got there I hit return. The site generated two tickets for me.

We were seated about half a dozen seats to the right of center. If I stretched my leg out while seated I… Continue

Study Finds Four Cups of Coffee Per Day Lowers Death Risk

Study Finds Four Cups of Coffee Per Day Lowers Death Risk:  A new study from Spanish researchers found that higher coffee consumption is linked to a lower risk of death, with those who drink at least four cups of coffee per day having a 64% lower risk of death than those who did not or hardly consume coffee.  Of course, there’s also a strong likelihood you’ll never sleep again, but you will live longer.  I’m guessing you’ll simply be way too wired to…

If 1$ USD = 1 gallon Harvey water

Were all of the estimated rainfall from Hurricane Harvey thus far (to 28Aug) to be sold at 1$ USD  per gallon at WalMart and 100% of the receipts turned over to the U.S. Treasury then the U.S. national debt could be reduced by…

Ode to Mulder

Perhaps the defining characteristic of humans is the drive to divide. We classify just about everything we know, or just think we know, about the world into, generally, two groups. Us and them. Catholics and Protestants. One aspect of our existence is tripartite: dog people, cat people, and no animals people. I'll leave out the bird, fish, rodent, and other micro-fauna folks as mentally deficient. As it happens, I've been in a dog family (not mine, but by marriage) for some decades, and most…

With the Pardon, Trump Declares Open Season On Black and Brown People: The Monday Question

Racism as Smoke Screen and Diversion

The phrase "white privelege" isn't broad or expansive enough to cover the full range of the social, political, economic, psychlogical, and emotional impact and consequences of centuries of race based subjugation and slavery.

The fact that historically, white supremacy and white privilege over determine the positive life outcomes and life chances of white folks relative to black and brown people is one of the most consistent and repeated findings in all of the social… Continue

Bill Nye Sues Disney Over $9M Underpayment

Bill Nye Sues Disney Over $9M Underpayment:  Television personality and scientist Bill Nye the Science Guy is suing Disney and several of its subsidiaries claiming the conglomerate underpaid him by at least $9 million for his popular television series.  Sources close to the situation say snarky Disney executives told Bill Nye “We paid you correctly, just do the math.”  And so, much to Disney’s chagrin - he did.  Bottom line - you don’t wanna tell a science…

The 2nd article by Susan Raffo on white privilege...this time about whites being harmed themselves.

I'm reposting Irna's next posting sharing her friend Susan Raffo's second article because i believe it furthers the discussion on ending white privilege we are having here at Our Salon.

I have sometimes posted my thoughts suggesting that until we deal with core beliefs around coping with scarcity and abundance, we will not be able to also see the systems or institutions we support… Continue

SF says NO to hate rally

As we started the march yesterday morning from the Panhandle to Alamo Square Park to join up with folks from various other groups, I found myself looking every which way because I wasn't sure if we'd be attacked.

An atmosphere of fear had been created throughout San Francisco by news that a right-wing group called Patriot Prayer was coming to town to do a rally that would feature and draw white supremacists, Nazis and others. Charlottesville, where two week before an…

Many People in Harvey’s Path Refused to Evacuate

Many People in Harvey’s Path Refused to Evacuate:  Emergency officials in Texas say they were deeply concerned by the large number of people in Hurricane Harvey’s path who chose not to follow instructions and evacuate.  And who can blame them?  I mean, when you decide to give a dangerous hurricane the same name as your accountant, how’s someone supposed to take that seriously?…

Anxiety is at a new high for me. I am experiencing many of the same physical symptoms I had when I was pre- and post- divorce. During those years, pharma helped, but I'm not going down that road again.

I have to make some changes in my life, like staying away from the news except for headlines these days. I get the gist, don't worry, but discussion seems fruitless and has become very upsetting.

About a week or so ago, I wrote to every single sitting US Senator.…
