Study Finds Pornography Leads to Memory Loss:  A new study out of Germany is claiming that pornography often leads to memory loss.  Researchers say they reached that conclusion after data showed that way too many people seem to be forgetting passwords to porn sites. …

Nay nay neighbors

A policeman came around the other day, spoke to K&R, the couple who were doing some yard work for me. “Seen any crackers [sic] there?” he asked, indicating the green house adjacent to the end of our yard.

“If you do, let us know,” he said. The house is presently standing empty. One of those spooky…

A Book Reviewer's Dilemma

A New Book-Reviewing Experience

At least for me.

I recently agreed to review a book because it dealt with a current and important matter. It was also authored by one with a long and distinguished career in his chosen field. The book was up on Amazon, was published for real, and was being promoted by a well known publicity outfit. I approached the project with enthusiasm and the high hope of rendering a favorable review.

I don’t believe any of my own…

Tales of J: a summer camp doctor describes an encounter with J

It's summer. My wife was recently notified by e-mail that Camp has started. Camp means Camp Jabberwocky, on Martha's Vineyard, the first cerebral palsy camp in the United States, where J spent a few weeks of most of his summers. I've written about Camp before. It's donation supported, so don't make assumptions about wealth given the camp's location. …

Making Graphs for Blogposts

Have you ever wanted to create a graph and insert it into a blog you are posting?  Maybe not, but if you have I have worked out a way to do it.

I used Excel to create the graph.  I chose something that I knew so that I would know whether the visual fit the data I entered.  If you have Excel here is what I…

Lost in the Void

Well the mosaic mural behind the bathtub is done except for the hazy area in the void.  When i realized I wouldnt have enough grout to finish the middle of the void I was mad.  But I realized that having it right there in the middle was ok.   Maybe I would put white grout in there and call it mist.  I…

New Camera

My old camera is terrible but it is small and goes with me everywhere.  Someone gave me a camera and it is very fancy but it is big and complicated.  I have avoided using it and yet I get it out and fiddle with it once in awhile.  I think I am going to start using it more.

Freedonia Offers to Replace England in EU

NGORZSKL, Freedonia.  Freedonian officials are tired this morning after an all-night vigil they kept in a state of anticipation and suspense, fueled by oglitz, this land-locked European country’s bitter variation of coffee.  “It is very functional,” said Ngli Zolitwk, the nation’s first female Prime Minister, of the highly-caffeinated native drink.  “What you don’t finish can be used to strip furniture, or unclog sluggishly-flowing sinks,” she says as she stifles a yawn.

A Local Political Activist

I want to tell you about a local politician and political activist. She's been a physician for many years and, in that capacity, started to get upset about what she observed about environmental conditions' effect on health, so she got involved in local and regional environmental organizations in addition to medical organizations. She co-authored a couple of reports about environmental impact on health that are…

George F. Will quits Republican Party over Donald Trump

George F. Will was asked what he suggests GOP voters do regarding Trump:

"Make sure he loses. Grit their teeth for four years and win the White House."

In essence, George F. Will just reluctantly endorsed Hillary Clinton for…

Reason and Enlightenment v Ignorance and Stupidity

The political consequences of the dumbing down of America.

This is an element of the result of the hypocrisy of being pro-education while simultaneously being anti-intellectual.

The dichotomies, and battle lines, are plain and simple:

Evolution v Creation

Global warming & climate change v government plots and conspiracies

Gun control v the right to bear arms

Corporate hegemony and Free Market Economics v Government… Continue

The Founders and the Constitution - A Curious Fetish

Conservatives wrap themselves in the flag and pretend for all the world that they are keepers of the flame (the flame being their version of our Constitution).

Defense of the Constitution came up once again when the Senate voted on four different bills related to terror and gun control.  Caught by a reporter as he was leaving the…

The Allure of Science Fiction and Thoughts on a 4D Brain.

Although I’m not the science fiction fan that Steel Breeze appears to be, I do like science fiction and even some science fantasy literature.  Most of my reading of SFF was in the past.  There was a period of about a decade when I read all of the “Good Stuff” – Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, the collaborations of Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle – as well as many lesser known authors.

I liked Pournelle and Niven…

Trumpxit - Not that What I Might have to Say Makes any Difference

Well the Brits have cast their lot to make their exit from the EU.  The pound crashed this morning and world wide stock markets did their ritual swan dives - down 2.5-3%.  American corporations are falling back to Plan B and David Cameron is resigning as Prime Minister.  President Obama has expressed his regrets while Donald Trump, true to form congratulated the voters of Scotland for choosing to exit the EU, even though they didn't.

CNN speculates that the Brexit vote may be a…
