A photograph from a Palestinian demonstration

A while back I saw a post featuring a photograph of a big, fully armed IDF soldier with his boot on the back of a very small Palestinian child. It was a picture worth a thousand words. I was embarrassed by it even though I’m not Israeli. By the way, in spite of what I’m about to write, I still am.

When I saw such posts I tended to keep my mouth shut unless I was sure I agreed with the point of the post, like the recent shooting of a sixteen year old demonstrator in Gaza by the…

4 Sentences Journalism Caving

The WHC's annual event's center is a comedian (of any stripe), the press caving long since, with so many bloated, self-congratulating institutions, to some of the worst instincts television induces.

Raising up press freedom, good journalism, efforts to protect reporters, and the scholarships granted to journalism students are diminished…

WTF: Trump on the "Inspiration" of the Paralympics

What he said was bad enough, pay close attention to VP Pence's reaction to it...

How is something that is supposed to be inspiring "tough to watch"?

NYT Guest Post: A Quiet Exodus: Why Black Worshipers Are Leaving White Evangelical Churches, By Campbell Robertson March 9, 2018

FORT WORTH — Charmaine Pruitt wrote the names of 12 churches on a sheet of paper, tore the paper into 12 strips, and dropped them into a Ziploc bag. It was Sunday morning and time to pick which church to attend.

This time of the week two years earlier, there would have been no question. Ms.…

Bill Gates Warns of Pandemic That Could Harm 33 Million

Bill Gates Warns of Pandemic That Could Harm 33 Million:  Bill Gates says the U.S. and other world governments are falling short in preparing the world population for the “significant probability of a large modern-day pandemic occurring in our lifetimes.”  Gates went on to add that if we don’t contain this treat now, its quite possible the majority of computers…

Short Fiction: Krispy Kreme and the Meaning of Life

Warren woke with the chickens.  It had been his habit since childhood when he actually was awakened by the sound of the neighbor’s rooster crowing.  Swinging his legs over the side of the bed he almost reached out to see if Betty was up, and then the persistent grief of her loss settled over him as it had done now for the past year.

Warren Krueger and Betty Peterson had been an item since he came back from the navy at 22.  He had been a Machinist’s Mate and part of the Auxiliary Group…

Just to make things clear...

Koshersalaami apparently thinks the Jewish organization ADL walks on water.

I don't.

I expressed this by comparing Hamas' Holocaust denial with the ADL's denial of the Armenian Genocide.

As a good Zionist he was ALSO offended by this because acknowledging anyone else's right to claim "genocide" dilutes Israel's…

The ADL on the Armenian Genocide and (not) on the destruction of Al Aqsa

On the pages of this site, a couple of accusations were made by Safe Bet’s Amy about the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish organization founded to combat antisemitism.

The first was that the ADL does not recognize the Armenian Genocide. Let’s see:

https://www.adl.org/blog/adl-on-the-armenian-genocide

The second concerned alleged ADL statements calling for the destruction of Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. I…

We Save Lives

The constant refrain from the most profitable industry (not counting the FIRE parasites), "we need sky-high prices because we save lives", is, once again, belied. Here's the story.

Those who received pumps (785) survived a median of 67 months, compared with 44 months for patients who did not get…

Feeling Better, but Not

Tamiflu, DayQuil, NyQuil, Cepacol lozenges, Halls cough drops, generic pseudoephedrin, generic guaifenesin. I think the Cepacol lozenges are what saved me by numbing my throat, my ribs are about sprung from coughing. The -Quils don't use pseudoephedrin anymore, thanks to the meth addicts, so I supplemented very occasionally. That stuff just works. My voice is, nonetheless, wrecked right now and I had to exercise it on the guy from the pest control service who…
