Geography Trivia question, possibly easy

Without looking at a map:

This evening, I was in four states within forty-five minutes, driving in a straight line. I'm in the fourth at the moment. I am not Southbound.

Where am I?

winding road

I tend to not be inclined to want to [attempt to] give tributes to fallen artists and won't begin today, but I ran across this, The Artist Formerly Known As and Sheryl Crow, Nineteen and Ninety Nine, doing her bands' song, his arrangement .. as I understand it. Every day is a winding road indeed. I fear I may be guilty of not…

A Portrait of the BLP

The man is an angel, first for letting me use him as the subject of my first painted portrait ever, and second, letting me post it even though he doesn't really like it.

He is always supportive of my art. He just doesn't think it looks like him. It does, though. Mostly.

Before it was done, he came into the studio to see how it was going. He noted that it looked more like an illustration than a painting, He was right about that. It was very "flat" at that point; mostly just…

I Was Having Prostrate Difficulties

Overture:

But [productivity] is also really hard to measure, particularly for service firms. (How productive were employees at Facebook, or your local bank, last quarter? Have fun trying to figure it out.)

-- Neil Irwin/2016

More times than I can count, these essays have mentioned that productivity software (word processing, spreadsheets, and…

Poem for a Rainy Day

THE DEATH OF THE POET JOHN MILTON, NOV 8, 1674

(as described by the writer john guzlowski)

John Milton died alone in his room,

his daughter Ann picking herbs

in the garden, parsley and rosemary.

She said she’d be right back,

and he said nothing.  He was dying,

and didn’t want his daughter with him.

There was something about the way

she sat in silence…

How to Review Your Own Book

For those who want to make a living as writers, the situation grows more dire every day. There are increasingly fewer publications that review books, and space in the ones that remain is reserved mainly for celebrity and political bios and big-name novelists whose works are supported by large advertising budgets. Funny how that works out.

But you’ve got to believe in yourself before anyone else will. If you can’t get somebody else to review your book, why not review it…

The Guarantor of Equality Under Law

As I've shared, the Tennessee governor this week signed a bill allowing therapists asserting religious conviction to refuse services to LGBT citizens.

And isn't it the point that no professional association should, with the embrace of the Law, make any move that tends to isolate or to stigmatize any…

Actions speak louder than words..?

I hope so, because I am at a lose for words lately.

I keep thinking, if I say just the right thing in just the right way...

But, it's not working and it's never worked, so I guess I'm insane because I keep believing it will work.  I just have to get the words right.

My apologies for such an introverted post.  You don't have to comment back.  I'm just typing out loud.

Rodney makes an open call about books, and I think back on  my book…

oysters and lightning

Oysters are difficult to come by in Kansas City--they are flown in here and there with varying degrees of success. Generally speaking, even the best KC 'fresh' oyster on the shell is half of what you'd expect and receive in New Orleans in terms of plump deliciousness. For the last few years the go to…

In The Kitchen Of Angelo

In The Kitchen of Angelo

In the kitchen of Angelo,

the olives roll their blood shot eyes in the jar,

the bread swells in clean curved slices,

and chosen cheeses leap for each dish served.

He has stirred his grandmother into the tasty sauce

Donald Trump's foreign policy: 'America First' & Why are these People Smiling??

Check this out, Trump is dumping on Obama and HRC because we get "no respect" and of course he's rolling out the Benghazi BS as part of his comprehensive foreign policy speech:

As an answer to the problem of "no respect," rumor has it that the Trump Campaign is in negotiations with Randy…

Dr. Gordon Was Right

Overture:

As mass production has to be accompanied by mass consumption; mass consumption, in turn, implies a distribution of wealth -- not of existing wealth, but of wealth as it is currently produced -- to provide men with buying power equal to the amount of goods and services offered by the nation's economic machinery.

-- Marriner Eccles

This quote is part of the permanent preamble to one version of these endeavors. Today's essay was going to… Continue

Texas Sheriff Would Beat Transgender Women Unconscious

Texas Sheriff Would Beat Transgender Women Unconscious:  Tracy Murphfree, the new Republican sheriff of Denton County, Texas, told reporters that he would beat a transgender woman unconscious if she ever tried to share a bathroom with his daughter.  And, to ensure the public safety, Murphfree said he plans to spend a lot of time hanging out in women’s restrooms, just to be sure there’s no transgender people in there.…
