How To Make Both The Police And Protesters Happy

Stop or I'll cry!

We all know that cops have it rough. It's a dangerous job but less so than many people think. Garbage collectors, construction workers and the transportation industry suffer far more fatalities as…

i'm going to share the cooking class adventure but first i want to talk about some things that happened with the Dying Daughter friend Anne. that were seriously creepy. now i've told you about her telling me that  her daughter is dying. i began to be suspicious when she said that she spends wednesdays with her kid. just one day a week? so i finally asked her full out what the prognosis is and she said anywhere from 2 days to 20 years.…

April 30th: Anniversary of a Famed Suicide

Hitler and Eva Braun in June of 1942

On this day, in 1945, just ten days following his birthday, the man in the photo above apparently killed himself and his brand new bride of one day, Eva.

I don't think the world missed him as a…

Lost Words, a Casualty of Political Correctness

clip art

As the unrest continues in Baltimore, President Obama has been criticized for referring to the looters in Baltimore as thugs.  In recent times the word thug has been synonymous with ruffian, hoodlum or vandal.  Thug has its origins in India where followers of…

Roid Rage

Well, I am back on steroids.

Not because I'm entering a golf tournament, but because my right foot has been acting up. Ordinarily this should be a minor complaint for someone my age, but it's a game changer for me, because walking is my major form of exercise, and one of my greatest joys in life. I typically log 16 miles a week.

Now, due to the painful foot, I come stumbling back from my outings like an extra on the "Walking Dead." Favoring my right foot has changed my… Continue

Dusk Brings

surprises of unexpected delight

forgotten promises

planted for the future

spring to life

Grabbing at these final rays

They delight only those

able to plant their dreams in the soil

for a brighter tomorrow.

Reviews Of Brother’s Keeper, Somm, Aliens On The Moon: The Truth Exposed, I Am Divine, And Naked Ambition: An R-Rated Look At An X-Rated Industry

I recently watched five documentaries online, and all of them were about characters that, in one fashion or the other, were dumb, or that featured aspects of stupidity at their essence. They were Brother’s Keeper, Somm, Aliens On The Moon: The Truth Exposed, I Am Divine, And Naked Ambition: An R-Rated Look At An X-Rated Industry.

The first of the documentaries was a 1992 film that, at its best, recaptures some of the power felt…

Lucy The Yoga Goat

Castle Ruins Above Loutro

Rob and Bob taught yoga classes in a 13th century castle ruins above the village of Loutro, Crete from 1991 to 1994. In September, 1991, we met a goat with a personality very similar to our dog Lucy. Naturally we named the goat Lucy, which immediately drew ridicule from the shepherds as well as…

At the Preppy Headband Surgicenter

WELLESLEY FALLS, Mass.  It’s a quarter to 8 in the morning in this leafy suburb of Boston, and Washington Street–the main artery that takes commuters to the Massachusetts Turnpike–is bumper-to-polite-bumper.  “It’s a traffic jam, but one with good intentions,” says Dr. Fletcher Whipple as he makes a right turn and heads to the parking lot of the medical office building where he practices.

When A Woman Dresses In the Morning

When a woman dresses in the morning,

slipping her skin into fabrics

that drape her the way

she wants to be draped by the day,

with ease and comfort,

with seams that give when

she works and climbs

toward action that makes a difference

for somebody, for herself,

with a weave that follows as she bends

with the wind but still standing,

with a form not like a bit,

not like a harness,

not a…

I never cease to be fascinated with how the mind—and, of course, my mind specifically—works.

I admire those whose minds and thoughts are like a well organized closet where there is a place for everything and everything is in it’s place. Mine is much more like a “Help Yourself” bin at a yard sale. Thoughts suddenly appear from absolutely nowhere, and disappear just as quickly.

NFL Gives Up Tax Exemption...Thank Women for This Modest Move

The Art of Listening....Sort Of

I had a conversation with my son the other day and I hung up wondering, what Marty would have said to him, did I do the things she has taught me over the years or did I do what I too often have done, in conversations.  It happens a lot; I step back, replay a conversation and reach for the things Marty has taught me.

When you are married to a psychologist, you better remember your talks.  I do.  I remember listening to Marty and interjecting with my best direction and most trite…

Carry Me Swiftly Towards Salvation - Part 4

Had Katelyn made a huge mistake? She often wondered this on the bad days. On the good days, she was less likely to fall into this negative thinking. Part of her felt so stupid and naïve for thinking this new life would be easier. What a joke. Life was harder now than it had ever been and didn’t show any signs of getting better. Every day was a struggle. Katelyn had grown resentful of giving up the career she wanted so she and Heidi could be together. One of them needed to make decent money,…

It's Hard to Be Alone with Pain

Let's face it
It's hard to be alone
with pain

Hard to be left alone
outside in the darkness
of the rain

Dark rain, dark rain
Feeling lost and alone
is hard

even for the brave

We all need someone
to stay by our side when we feel lost
in the death-grip of pain
