As to Ms Sarandon and Trump-Votes to "Hasten the Revolution"

Ms Sarandon could never possibly be significantly harmed by any president; she skims past the palpable, devastating harm that will certainly visit those least able to defend themselves against the lasting…

Bunco Squad Busts Bogus Poetry Contest Ring

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  This city across the Charles River from Boston is so thick with poets “that you can’t throw a brick in Harvard Square without hitting one,” according to Sergeant Jim Hampy of the Cambridge Police Department’s Bunco Squad.  “I know ’cause we tried it one day and nearly killed a neo-formalist/symbolist outside Grolier’s,” a bookshop here that stocks only poetry.

“I think he’s…

Patti Duke Died

She was my age and had a septic reaction to a bowel obstruction.  I feel close to her in this crazy way that fame brings someone into our hearts even tho we never met.  Her performance in the movie Miracle Worker was riveting.  She had energy and spirit.

Mississippi Senate Approves Christian Paramilitary Bill

Mississippi Senate Approves Christian Paramilitary Bill:  The Republican-dominated Mississippi state Senate has approved a bill which would not only allow concealed weapons, but permit churches to designate and train parishioners to serve as armed church security militias.  Makes pretty good sense - I mean, why stone gays, blasphemers and adulterers when you can just shoot ‘em?  Stoning seems so 2nd century.  Now the question remains, is there an open arrest…

To give love instead of hate, because that is what my mother actually taught me.

It does.  I makes me look absolutely weak to you in ways.  You take my kindness for weakness and I gave myself away to you.

I can't do that.

You took.

and took and took and took and if you don't think what you did was take from me, then look at all that time.

I spent money going to Pitt State.  Money on gas, food, housing, books, supplies, tuition,....etc.  You forgave me for PItt State?   I don't want to hear it because that is exactly the problem.  You think I…

A Card in the Spokes

When we were kids, we used to get a playing card (or a baseball card, if it was not a “good” one) and a clothespin, and pin the card to the spokes of a bicycle. It made such a cool noise when you rode it!

Last night, I was reminded of those long-ago days when my car suddenly…

Grumpy Gut

Can the bacteria in your gut determine your mood?  I think it takes more than that to get me down but I like the saying "You are what you eat.".  I am happier when I eat some bread and am not hungry.   My granddaughter can get in grumpy moods but it seems to me it is a combination of not eating…

You'll Never Walk a Dog in This Town Again

A 23-year old Russian dog walker attacked a competitor twice her age for poaching clients.

Man Planned Model Airplane Attack on US Capitol

Man Planned Model Airplane Attack on US Capitol:  A 26-year-old Massachusetts man with a physics degree was sentenced to 17 years in prison for plotting an attack on the U.S. Capitol with a remote-controlled model aircraft, which he planned to fill with C-4 plastic explosives.  Neighbors expressed shock, saying that this guy has always been a model citizen.…

Politics as the Unusual: Some Interesting Numbers for the Bern and HRC

NPR reported some interesting numbers about how the Democratic Presidential campaign may play out between now and the convention: Despite the math, Bernie Sanders has already won.

"Sanders won with 82 percent in Alaska, 70 percent in Hawaii and 72 percent in Washington. That Washington margin was even bigger than the Sanders campaign expected — and significant,…

Dating Over 60 Even If You're Sally Field

So I got to see "Hello, My Name is Doris," the new indie film I'd read about in Elle magazine.  It brought Sally Field out of an hiatus it seems, and with it, addressing women of a certain age dating into the forefront.

Here's the trailer for the film:…

That's too bad about Jaime Leeee

That's too bad about Jaime Leeee.

He decided not to give me the 'acceptance' you feel you need to give me in order for me to accomplish anything in your realm.

As far as I care not to try any harder than I am.

That pretty much sums up the way I think you act and feel and I see no need in doing anything for you. Stay away from me and work and don't stop me and ask me to be any part of your life.

As far as I care and I explained what the relationship between…

I Still Hate Neil Irwin, Part the Fourth

The best part of not being an academic quant is that I don't have to read every word written by every academic quant on planet Earth. The worst part is the occasional time when an original insight turns out to have a name. Sigh.

In yesterday's Easter Homily, I mentioned an oft offered truth: the US buck is the global reserve currency, and for that reason we have to run a current account deficit against the Rest-of-World economies. The alternatives: 1) forsake reserve currency status…
