And it was a time of great vulnerability.  But I didn't know it then.

Because at age 20, away at college, and in love with the future, I couldn't see anything but hope and sex and an unwavering commitment to idealism and reverie.

So we danced around reality—he and I—and played family in the rental in Davis, walking my dogs, having coffee and drinking Bailey’s—becoming grown-ups—playing Scrabble while blasting Led Zeppelin 4, and spending lazy Saturdays listening…

Cold Shower Experiment

I subscribe to Simpleology. When they suggested cold showers in the morning, with the possibility that it would make me less sensitive to cold weather, I decided to try it.

For the first 3 months, I hated my morning cold showers, but winter was coming and I thought a few minutes in the morning would be a minor trade-off for avoiding winter misery. I did breath-of-fire in the shower. I became a master of the quick shower,…

1-Sentence: Gay Gateway Snack

Doritos “make the perfect gateway snack to introduce children to the joys of homosexuality,” writes popular right wing blogger Ed Straker, who suggests as a remedy, persuading "a hot dog maker and a hot dog bun company to do a joint effort promoting man-woman" sex.

A Post for Black History Month

William Hall, VC. Government of Nova Scotia photo.

We Canucks seldom, if ever, honour our heroes and heroines -- no Davy Crocketts or Jim Bridgers or Alvin Yorks here.

It doesn't matter much to us that we had a prime minister who won the Nobel Peace Prize or doctors and scientists who have achieved international…

Expert: Planning Key to Spontaneous Sex

WELLESLEY FALLS, Mass. Priscilla Mainwaring, a mother of two teenaged children in this affluent suburb of Boston, has a little surprise in store for her husband Dan, a securities analyst. “I’m going to greet him at the door when he comes home on his 50th birthday wearing nothing but Saran Wrap,” she says. “The Cling Plus kind, not the Premium, which is an extra tough, heavy duty wrap that’s good for storing meats in the freezer.”…

Cruz Alleges Trump’s Tax Returns Might Show Mafia Ties

Cruz Alleges Trump’s Tax Returns Might Show Mafia Ties:  Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz suggested to ABC News that rival Donald Trump may be reluctant to release his tax returns because he my be doing business with the mob.  Now I have no idea if Trump has any Mafia ties, but I seriously doubt its something that would show up on his tax returns.  In related news, a mob spokesperson denied the charges, telling reporters “dare ain’t no such ting as a Mafia, so…

Stop Donald Trump (before it's too late)

Float in the Dusseldorf Carnival parade, 2016

More than two and one half decades ago I wrote a collection of essays based on conversations I had with German women in their mid 80s. This week I had another conversation with a German…

My Independent run homework, the eighth VP

Martin Van Buren was born on December 5th 1782 in Kinderhook New York. The region was mostly Dutch so he was the first Vice President who spoke English as a second language. His father ran a local tavern where he learned how to deal with all kinds of people from the poor farmers to the wealthy merchants passing through the area.

Unlike the former Vice Presidents Martin Van never attended a college, he apprenticed with a law firm in New York City. After a few years he passed…

Once again Trump opens mouth, proves he is a fool

I saw the most beautiful kids today.  I am sure they were in their twenties.  I went for a run today and as it was windy I went to the track of Lawrence High School and jogged by a friendly soccer goalie with a big smile and on to the track where I ran into some frisbee football players.  They were the most outgoing friendly beautiful kids EVER.  They offered play straight as I got to the field.   They threw me the frisbee a couple of times and then offered up the soccer ball and played that…

A young girl gets involved in politics

This video made its way to my FB account today.

Do you like watching people desecrate the images of INDIVIDUAL children? You didn't seem to mind

Do you like watching people defame and mutilate the images children have?  You didn't seem to mind.  I mean.  I don't really like the idea of you using my name.

Here let me tell you why then.

Jaime Le at the onset of my entry into high school was a student I had neither concept of by individual reputation created elsehow or personal experience.  He as well as a group decided they wanted to see if I was socially fit for their standards of practice so they posed a…

Ode to H2O

I'm glad there’s water on the earth.

It wouldn’t be good if of water we had a dearth.

If we didn’t have water, there’d be no beer,

and also no red wine, that much is clear.

(I don’t mean you can see through red wines,

I assume you understood me

even though I said it in lines

that by a loose definition constitute poetry.)…

Trump - The Producer

Remember that movie – The Producers?  Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom (played by Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder) try to put on a show that’s bound to fail.  They search for the most offensive, preposterous script and, well, here’s what Wiki says:

“After reading many bad plays, the partners find the obvious…
