ISO Another Goldene Medina

This is slightly adapted from a post I wrote upon leaving Open Salon. Its inspiration is Anatevka from Fiddler on the Roof.

Someone should have pulled the plug on this place long ago.

A poem, a rant

So, what's an argument? Or an observation?

In the Wake of Lorianne's Announcement: The Question

Should we attempt to migrate to another platform as a community, or should we simply say our good-byes, disband, move on, and seek new digs as soloists?

OPEN CALL: Lorianne: BRAVA!

Thanks Lorianne for everything

Hi!

Yeah, I know, been a long time since I've posted on here, lots of things have changed, some for the good, some for the bad.

Our Salon was where we gathered as our home Open.Salon sank below the waves.  The people who became family still continue to be family, in my greatest time of need, OS was here for me.

I did wander off, going to other sites, to try and spread the joy that was Open, most of those sites are now in the graveyard as well.

I still blog using a…

Twenty-Three Minutes

Up on over the path's hill standing and riding along the cliff's side, the thick limbs of ash trees and beech drawn sideways for dark trail shade grown huge from the earth below and higher finally than the hawk who lived nearby powerfully gliding its shadow crossing the boy's route, the bicycle's speed wonderful yet perilously close to the graveled edge --- you had to lean into it and squint into the wind going down as it was too steep for nothing but out--of-gear coasting --- and leaning…

Lorianne's closing Our Salon: In case you didn't get this email or haven't seen it:

I will be discontinuing this network beginning July 1, 2019. I have supported this project financially for many years now with very little help from membership and am choosing to stop doing that. I do not have the time nor the desire to continue to do so. This decision is non-negotiable and there is no mechanism for transfer of ownership to another.

Hopefully everyone learned from the past and has been saving their posts on their own computer. If…

Memorial Day and the Tale of Two American Generals

For most of our pop culture who take American freedom for granted Memorial Day Weekend is merely a time to take the boat out on the lake, have a few beers, enjoy the barbecue, or watch a ballgame. Sure everyone needs to relax and enjoy the occasional holiday. However, let us not forget the selfless sacrifice that our war veterans were willing…

Do You Know What You're Talking About?: Climate Change and Global Warming

Climate change occurs when changes in Earth's climate system result in new weatherpatterns that last for at least a few decades, and maybe for millions of years. The climate system is comprised of five interacting parts, the atmosphere (air), hydrosphere (water), cryosphere (ice and permafrost), biosphere(living things), and lithosphere (earth's crust and upper mantle). The climate system receives nearly all of its energy from the sun, with a relatively tiny amount from earth's interior. The…

Note to Self: No Clock Is Ticking

...Except the one placed in my head.

I did not put  a clock in between my own ears. I don’t wear a watch, but I’m obsessed with time, nonetheless. There is no clock ticking but I know I have to be at the Lion’s club by 6:30 a.m. to serve beverages tomorrow, and next Saturday too. Veterans eat free, as do the homeless, selectively, get fed. I’m not the decider.

I’ve long argued that service is an art form. Chicago decides where our dues…

The Democratization of Capitalism?

Equity and equality in Income and wealth lie in the tangibles required to:

Make Something

Build Something

Grow Something

Extract Something

Sell Something

Move Something

Income and wealth inequality and inequity lie in speculation on stock prices and futures in Wall Street hedge funds....

Labor v Capital

People v Profit

Freedom and Justice for All cannot eminate from a society which is predicated on the competitive expediency of…
