Movie Musicals That Should Be Rebooted

A couple of days ago, I wrote about Broadway musicals that were being developed for the big movie screen.  Lo and behold, that same day I read the news that Will Smith and…

Al Gore on "using the atmosphere as an open sewer" @PBS. I like Al

Just saw Al Gore on PBS Newshour discussing his newest book "The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change."

Don't know if the book is great, or good - but hell it has to be at least interesting, if not downright enlightening. Hopefully at some point in the future I'll find myself with a hard copy of Al's book, and enough time to read it--actually absorb cover to cover.

We'll see how that plays out! No…

Dear God, you're Wrecking My Marriage

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray The Lord my soul to keep, etc., etc.

Thank you, dear Father, for getting me through another day unscathed and for keeping the stock market on an upward trend. Would appreciate a heads-up if things start to go south. We've discussed this before and I won't bore you with technicalities, but I need to fatten my IRA as much as I can.

I have a special request to ask of you tonight, your Almightyness: Would you and your friends at Christian… Continue

Yesterday's Harp

Yesterday’s Harp worried about your opinion of him.

He didn’t just consider it or think about it, he actually worried about it.  He couldn’t help it.  He grew up in a household where the opinion of others…

Crazy

The crazy thing is

that Crazy does

as Crazy says

So why does Crazy

always pretend

the other guy is holding the end

of Crazy's twisted "special" blend

paranoid  schizophrend

coexisting

never mend

or meld that simple disparate piece

for then Crazy might possible send

Screw Purity

I've had a conversation with another blogger over a long period of time and over multiple posts, and we have never reached agreement. It has to do with two views of morality. I devoted a pair of posts to this issue on Open Salon, one entitled Dirty Hands and the other entitled The Gift. Basically, it comes…

"You must act. Be bold. Be courageous." (Gabby Giffords)

"You must act. Be Bold, Be Courageous."

(Gabby Giffords from her senate hearing testimony on gun violence, 1/30/13)

Gabby is one of my heroes. And those of us who are committed to working for freedom and justice FOR ALL (not just the rich and powerful) should take her words seriously. Now, action includes writing and sharing your work, not just marching…

Cruising the Cosmetics Aisle

White hair products are few and far between in Cosmetics.  The rainbow is getting brighter in the hair care section.  The eye makeup is evolving into very dramatic effects.  I am not sure why I was cruising the aisles in the drugstore this morning and I walked out buying nothing.

I guess I went in there because of my hair.  It is getting so thin.  As I looked at all the options I remembered all the things my mom and I used…

Did You Ever Wonder?

So many things in this world just don't make sense to me.  I've spent a lot of time wondering at the logic behind so many things we take for granted and accept as the way things are supposed to be.  For example, bicycles, the men's bike has a bar strategically positioned so that if he slips from the seat his testicles will collide with it.   The women's bike?  A deep dip in the frame.  Were they designed by man hating women or perhaps as a means of birth control?

Anger Management

And so it's been 8 days since I've been gone.

And my husband says:

"I love you and miss you."

"I'm going to counseling every week."

"I bought 2 books on men and anger, I'm reading them with a highlighter pen."

"I told my daughter I'm very angry and she said, "duh!"

"I've lost the most important thing to me and that's my marriage and I'll do anything to get it back."

"Our house doesn't feel like a home anymore."

"I'm…

Her Poetry Sucked

She was frail, and lithe and wan–

Most delicate thing I’d laid eyes on.

I’d have killed to possess her by usufruct–

Except for one thing: her poetry sucked.

She had silver threads among the gold

that suggested loves once young, now old.

I’d have fallen for her like a loaded dump truck–

Except for one thing: her poetry sucked.

“Please read this for me, and see what you think,”

She said as she passed me her…

1968 – September, Handling the Mail, Picking up Brother Rick from Rayburn and Annika Ljung

http://swamplot.com/for-sale-downtown-post-office-box/2009-02-25/

September, Handling the Mail…: I don’t remember the interview or anything else about actually getting the job except that I think I started work at the new Post Office at 401 Franklin in downtown Houston sometime in August.  It may have been as late as the Tuesday after Labor Day, but the position of Mail…

Methow Socialites Take on Manhattan

"What do you think of these glasses?"

"D'you like it? I got it at the Rummage Room for a dollar. Look! It's the only thing I have that isn't stained."

"Does someone have one of those curling irons? My hair. Can someone help?"

"I don't really need makeup for the play. I do?"

The Merc's…

What a Blog Is; What it's Supposed to Be - Says Who???

"BLOG" is a portmanteau (a word like “smog” - formed by blending “smoke” and “fog); a combination of the words “web” and “log”.

This word was invented in the late nineties by two geeks sitting in…

Wants and Desires, Preferences and Priorities

I’m sitting here, thoroughly exhausted, trying to burn the hour between when I put my daughter to bed and when I get her back up to potty—without falling asleep myself. I will then take a dose of Tylenol PM or, no matter how exhausted I think I am, I will not fall asleep until 1 or 2 AM.

Today I met with the fertility specialist to discuss my “options”. He had called me yesterday after meeting with my oncologist and various other specialists during the conference held each Tuesday…

Signs of Spring; Take Heart!

Both photos taken this afternoon about 3 pm, Jan 30, 2013, in front of my house in Western Washington.

That's heather in bloom, and a Clematis putting out a rather phallic leaf bud along a fence.

This kinda stuff makes me happy. …

Where Do You Belong?

There are so many groups I belong to.

I play my part in mostly expected ways. I'm funny and warm and talkative and generous. People think I'm nice and often take advantage of me.

I'm also very scheming, and sometimes called aloof. I drink in information and use it to try to stay ahead, if not of others near me, of the general global trends.

Of myself.

I fall on my face and make mistakes and say I'm sorry a lot, and mean it.

I am plagued in my mind by…
