Genocide and American liberals

The New York Times has just enough coverage of the war crimes in Yemen, and US complicity in them, so it can say it covered the issue, but not enough to signal to readers that the issue matters. Meanwhile, a torrent of stories has convinced readers that Russiagate is the great issue of our time. For the educated liberal it is convenient to believe that whatever is really wrong can be identified with the Republican Party, so Russiagate is irresistible.

‘We overstepped in that case’ — David Brooks offers another empty apology for supporting Iraq war

New York Times columnist David Brooks has never come clean for the time that his neoconservatism trumped any conservative notion of government action and he supported the Iraq war. Once again he offered an empty apology, "We went into Iraq because we thought it would help for democracy around the world, and we overstepped in that case."

Dear moki ikom.  I like your palindomatous moniker although I have no idea how it came to be.

Thank you for adding me to your friend list.

A few things you should know about me.:

I have no chops; I'm just a person with observations and opinions.

I am seriously vision impaired.  If I write something that is nonsense feel free to notify me of such.  Other friends do.

Although I know the difference between logical and reasonable, my go to is reasonable.

I am, at heart, a mediator.  My career was marked by an ability to mediate (although I did not know at the beginning that that was my bent and my forte.)

So, if I seem to lack adherence to ideology, that is not true.  I just want to find a common path.

I like economics and am self taught.

I was a biology/chemistry major in college, but my real loves were English, history, philosophy and sociology. Go figure.

I am retired, old, decrepit and still love life.

Again, thanks.

Welcome!

With any new site, we understand that finding your way around can be a bit daunting. To help you use our site, we have a few resources and tips, all of which can be found on pages under the Support  tab in your top menu bar. They are:

FAQ- here you can find some quick answers to general questions, questions about privacy and about site features.
Tips & Tricks - this is our forum where you can find tips on using the site, news about site changes and other information from the staff and other members.

Our Terms Of Service and Our Copyright Policy  can also be found under the Support tab.

You may also find additional help by going to chat and asking another member. Chat can be found in 2 place: There is a CHAT link in your top menu which will open chat in your browser.

The other option for opening chat is to use the small tabs at the bottom of most pages. The tab named "Opium Den" (our chat name) will open the in a small pop up window at the bottom of the screen. This window can also be resized or 'popped-out' and used as a separate window.

There is a "Members Online" tab on the bottom of your page too. This will show which other members are logged in (logged in does not mean they are active in the chat, simply they are logged in to the site). There is a small speaker icon which will allow you to adjust the chat beeps which many prefer to turn off or down when not actively chatting.

We have many excellent features and tools here. While it may seem overwhelming at first, the basics of posting and commenting are simple and before too long we hope you will feel comfortable and at home.

Bang around, explore, write, comment and most of all have fun!
